ok, the worst branch u can join is the army...dont make that mistake...if you are going to join, go thru the Air Force...and i not only saying that b/c my dad's in the airforce but b/c my dad has met army generals that said that they wished they had joined the airforce...now u tell me what that means...
but dont think u off the hook...u still can be deployed but think about this, when was the last time u heard on the news that someone from the airforce was injured or killed...if u join, i hope u enjoy ur time in, i have and im 16 and a dependent...all the benefits are wonderful! plus they have the best housing of any branch...i lived in army, navy and airfoce bases, and by far airforce living is the best...
good luck =)

If you want to decide where you live while you are serving, may I suggest the Air National Guard. You serve in your hometown, and are deployed on a volunteer basis first. If they need more people, then they would call you up, but only temporarily. When I was in the ANG, there were so many volunteers, that it was HARD to get an overseas trip.
To join, simply see your ANG recruiter. You will attend the SAME EXACT basic training and tech schools as the active duty Air Force. You will be "active" until you finish tech school, which can be up to a year. During this time, you will not go overseas. You will have all the benefits as Active Duty, like medical, school, shopping, etc.
The Coast Guard goes overseas, dont listen to those other people. I was in Antarctica, and the Coast Guard goes there yearly, with many ports in between their Seattle base and Antarctica.
The Army National Guard, in general, sends people on therir overseas assignments longer than the Air National Guard.

There's a chance you'll go overseas on ANY military...even the Coast Guard.
However, there are some cases in which you might not, for example, if you have a family member who is on "special" need that can not be fullfilled overseas (i.e.: cancer, aids, etc).
Others have managed never to be on a ship by joining the Navy in the TAR (Temporary Active Reserve) program, which allows you to work as an active duty but with the reserves, but I won't guaranteed this as the program is changing.
The best part of joining any military is to go overseas, and learning other cultures, so I don't know why you want to join. It is always possible to just get a government job (not military), and get most of the same benefits without having to go overseas.
Is it that you don't want to go to a specific place (i.e.: Middle Eastern countries)? Or just don't want to go overseas at all?
If it's that you don't want to go to a specific place, you can always request to be stationed on shore duty at other places overseas (i.e.: Italy, Spain, Germany, etc).
If it's that you don't want to go out of the USA at all, then I owuldn't join.

I am currently in the process of joining the Air Force Reserve. Any branch of the military you go into is going to give the possibility of going overseas. If you go into the Air Force you could get shipped to Texas, Germany, Florida, Japan, etc..... I know alot of people in the military, and who have served and it becomes one big happy family. Just take the ASVAB and see what they offer. Call an Air Force recruiter and set an appointment and know that any position you take can pay off throughout your life you will never regret it just make sure you want to do it and know until you are sworn in you are not in the military and also know you could be shipped off and accept that freedom in this country is NOT free!!!!

You can go into the Military and probably even the airforce, but the best chance you would have in staying in the country is the Army national guard, but even that, you risk being sent overseas...this is wartime, dont join if you dont want to participate in the possiblities.

Right now given the mess in the world, you are better off keeping your butt in the states, but if you join the military, and we really get into it with some other country (which looks likely) then you could end up right in the middle of it all. Not a good time to join up! You could get in to the reserves, but that is no guarantee you wouldn't be called up to serve active duty! Good Luck!

Why ? you can't pay for college? why don't you let's those policy maker send their own family. Do you know that the military is made up almost of poor people.
when the son and daughter of the powerful and the rich go to the army they always work something out for them. they put them in a very safe environment to server. I hope , they can do the same for you
when you join the army, they send you wherever the hell they want to. you have no say so

You can't. best you could do is Join the Navy and be relatively safe working on a ship.
To joint he Airforce you have to have near perfect grades from high school.
Almost forgot about the Coastguard, but remember that covers Alaska and Hawaii too.

What is the point of joining the military if you're not willing to be posted and willing to do whatever is necesary there, whether that is killing people or not? Why not join the emergency services instead - it's a similar kind of thing, and you'll always be at home.
