Make new friends, but keep the old.
One is silver, the other is gold.
Anywhere you meet people is the place to meet people. If your life style and career is like that of a lighthouse attendent, then it might be a little more difficult, but not impossible. How was your bonding before you moved to this location? Invite your old friends to visit you or go visit them.
Look into yourself & list your interest. Not just your current interest, but those that you have put on the back-buner in the past for awhile due to pursing career or other worthwhile interest.
Dance, music, scuba, acting, research, astronomy, public speaking, yoga, religion studies, horses, real estate, martial arts, critical thinking, sculpting, stock market, museums, zoos, book stores, state fairs, places of worship, rotary club, 4-H clubs, Scouting, fishing, Sierra Club, theatre, sports parks, parks, picnics, grocery stores, malls, specialy stores, coffee shops, opera houses, associations connected with career & etc. You get the general idea.
The people that you need to meet may be in one of the areas of interest that you have yet to undertake. You already know to be discerning and careful.

It depends on you basically. I agree about the club scene, not a good place. Try associating with your neighbors. Or someplace you visit often. I tend to chat to people while I'm standing in line for something. Internet is okay but there are some weird people out there. If you ever want to chat, you can email me anytime.
Best of luck!!

Bookstores are actually good places. Do not let anyone fool you about that. In a bar or club everyone is putting out false images. Also concert/art venues. I prefer a well rounded person with vision and that is found in such places. Also, please, do not resort to the Internet!

i'd refuse to work together him in any communicate on politics, and would assume him to hold his proportion of the burden of life in this remoted island. i'd in basic terms play scrabble and trivialities with him, so as that i ought to overcome him every time. Oh, and that i'd supply him a duplicate of the AA massive e book and clarify the version between being dry and being sober.

It is my belief that following your interests and things you really believe in is the win/win situation of all time. You can meet people that way, and you get to be yourself -- which is what it is all about!
Go for it!
And good luck....
