It's not all of Canada that has this holiday unfortunately.

In Quebec there is no day off. August is a month with no civic holidays, but I guess we get ours in June for St Jean Baptiste...

Well actually it's called Simcoe Day now, in honour of John Graves Simcoe, the first lieutenant governor of Upper Canada.

In my home town it's also known as Canal Days...

The first weekend in august used to be called Civic holiday and it was like the ' bank' holiday in the UK.

It's a holiday all across Canada (but called different names in different provinces) except for Saskatchewan.

In Ontario it is Lord Simcoe Day, in Nova Scotia it is Natal Day, in New Brunswick it is New Brunswick Day, etc. etc.

Hey, Canadians are smart!

They have one long weekend a month from May to September! Pretty sweet, eh?

Talk about knowing how to party!

I'm not sure why they have so many of them, but I'd like to meet the genius who thought of it!

Party on, Canada!
