Olives come from Italy for the most part because that's where they grow best...and Olive Garden serves a lot of Italian food...or claims to anyway...I thought they were way too expensive, didn't taste all that wonderful, and didn't give me enough to eat...Crap Garden would be a better name for it.

Hooray to "adobeprincess" ...the answerer who said Olive Garden was a corporation like Halliburton, I could not agree more. But the reason it is named Olive Garden, I believe is the olive is the basis for the the oil which so many Italian dishes are started and enhanced with.("Olive Garden" is a fancy "corporate" name for a restaurant chain. ) Olives were originally raised in the Mesopotamian region near Iraq, believe it or not. Through trade, the olive was brought to different regions such as Italy, Greece and Spain and incorporated into their cuisine and diet. I have to say the Olive Garden's food is over-salted, has a high fat content and is not very good, period. There is nothing like a little "hole in the wall" Italian restaurant run by a family who really knows how to cook fresh and delicious Italian food..... Mangia!

The olive is an evergreen tree growing to 50 ft. in height with a spread of about 30 ft. The tree can be kept to about 20 ft. with regular pruning. The graceful, billowing appearance of the olive tree can be rather attractive. In an all-green garden its grayish foliage serves as an interesting accent. The attractive, gnarled branching pattern is also quite distinctive. Olives are long-lived with a life expectancy of 500 years. The trees are also tenacious, easily sprouting back even when chopped to the ground.
So you see, they are trees that can be found in gardens!

Olives grow in Italy.
They should call it the "Taco Bell" of Italian food. My family is Italian and I grew up eating the best homemade Italian food. I don't know how they get off calling it an Italian restaurant. My poor dead grandmother would spin in her grave if she saw me go in there!!

I don't know. I went there for the first time recently and did not see one olive. Maybe they should re-name it something like The Pasta Palace.
