Not really. It's just a way of trying to figure out why someone who professes to be straight would spend so much time in the LBGT section online.

If you are talking about responses on this yahoo answer thing - then its rarely gay people saying "you are gay" - especially if its being said within the context of an obvious insult. There are a lot of people on here who like to pretend to be gay for some strange reason, but they are fairly obvious.
If a gay person says "you are gay" it isn't being meant as in insult. Just a matter of fact observation based on your words.

I've never heard a gay person calling someone else gay as an insult. I've heard it in the sense that the gay person suspects the straight person to be gay. But, that's not an insult. That's more of a "welcome to the club" greeting.
I have indeed heard straight people call other straight people gay as an insult. And, as you say, the message is that being gay is bad.

I don't think a gay would ever insult a straight and indeed anyone with an identity of his very own.
On the contrary, straight people habitually call people 'gay' or 'fag' to insult anyone (be they gay or straight) because in their mind, being gay is something shameful and inferior.
Try rephrase your question like this: Why do straight people insult people by saying they must be gay.

Who says we're insulting them when we accuse them of being gay? It's a wonderful gift to be gay, but some people just need help realizing it.

You are the one who is construing that being called gay is bad. It is only an admission if the person who is hearing it thinks it's an insult. Translated, "Insult is in the eye of the beholder."

I don't think that straight people who don't like gays are gay.. I just think they are homophobic. Most are also hypocrites since they quote the Bible as their reasoning for not liking gay people and say it's a sin.. yet they all commit sins themselves. Since I like femmes, most of the women I am attracted to are straight, but I'd never hit on them.. but maybe that's why I'm single!

because a lot of the most vehement hatred comes from closeted gays who are frightened by us ...any gay person knows this from experience..that those who attack the most viciously turn out usually to be gay ..When we insult people by calling them gay this insults straight people who are afraid right to their core..like maybe someone can see their own doubts in them.
