are you responsible for damage to the item during shipping back to the company? I payed to return the item out of pocket, item was uninsured, company is threatening to keep my money. ($277.49 of my money vs value of damaged item $75 - $100)

What can I do? Think this is a scam.

They shipped you the wrong item.
It was their responsibility to make sure it got shipped back properly.
It's a matter of business ethics.
Keeping more than the product is worth is illegal. You have a legitimate complaint.
Threaten to call the general attorney of their state.
If they do not act. Make that call.

If it was their fault, they should have paid to get it back to them. I work for a wholesale company. I handle the returns. If we ship something wrong, we send the customer a prepaid label-a call tag-for them to return the item. If you had insured the package, it would have been better for you. The company should do the right thing and reimburse you just to keep good customer relations.

If you sent the item back in the packaging they used then how could you be held accountable? Seriously, this does sound like a scam... and on top of that, you should not have used your own money. It is their mistake... it should come out of their pocket books. Insist on a full refund and an appology for their greedy stupidity!
