The zebra look in your lawn was not the spreaders fault, that was a misapplication of fertilizer. Spreaders are calibrated to put out a certain amount of fertilizer depending on a number of things. What happened was the fertilizer overlapped in some areas, where in others it did not, hence the striping.

Water the lawn to dilute the fertilizer. Check out this website for proper fertilizer application: http://abe.www.ecn.purdue.edu/~epados/lawn/src/fert/apply.htm

St. Aug will bounce back. It will fill in the bare spots, but you may want to get some plugs for larger bare spots, this way weeds won't take over.

Leave it be for this summer. Water as normal, but don't feed for at least a month. I would just let it be and see what happens. If it starts to recover, use a light dose of Miracle Gro only. Do not over feed this year. Sometimes we give our plants/grasses just a little too much TLC and smother them.
