The rules don't say anything about table talk but I had a partner that was called out for cheating about this.

In real-life canasta, the only question you may legally ask is "Partner, may I go out?" (and, note: if you choose to ask this, you're bound by the answer). So, asking your partner if they can meld is not allowed (and I can't see why it should be - why stop there - why not allow "Partner have you got 3 aces?" etc etc).

Online canasta is the same.

That's because it IS cheating for partners to give each other clues as to what is in their cards. Very unsporting.....

According to Yahoo Games Help:

"Cheating includes:
-Using the chat window, kibitz, pager, email, phone, or any other communication device to relay private information about another player's hand or position.
-Using multiple IDs to sit at more than one seat in a multiplayer game (like Hearts).
-Purposely portraying yourself as having significantly poorer playing skills than you actually have. Beginner lounges are for beginners. Advanced players should play in the Expert rooms."
