No why? The American dream still can be had. It takes a lot of hard work. Most aren't willing to do that.

If you're asking whether it's possible to support yourself through your own enterprises, possess land, raise a family as you see fit and follow any religion you choose then the answer is yes. All these things are still very possible in America.

Of course at present there are many nations that provide the same freedoms so it's incorrect to call it an american dream now.

But it's increasingly more common to view that dream as dead and I think what you're asking is why do people say that?

Probably because when people think of the 'American Dream' they see it as a family living merrily in the suburbs with one father who works 9 to 5 as head of the household while the mother cooks meals, cleans the home and raises the children.

I'd say it's likely people think the dream is dead because nobody really wants to live that way anymore.

I would say yes. Because the american dream was totally made up during simpler times. But now there is so many issues and new and differen situations out there that many ppl in the past did not have back then. Also there is much hatred and death going on in the world today. Nothing is as simple as getting a good job, have the two kids and the wife and a hot meal on the table.

I think it's more like americans are waking up from the crap we've been fed on TV for the last 40 years or so. If you're an american, and you can/dare to dream, then the 'american dream' by definition isn't dead.

What is that dream.

It used to be a house and a chicken in every pot. I think we have all accomplished at least 50% of the dream.

Every house has more than one chicken these days.

And unless you were on vacation on a distant planet, you should know what the housing market has been in the last 3-4 years.

Not at all. there are still plenty of people with enough brains and work ethic to find somebody with a problem to solve and then to solve it in exchange for money. Solve more and bigger, get paid more. The biggest drag is the huge mass of kids graduating from public schools that have been brainwashed by teachers that have never accomplished a damn thing in their lives. Most people don't get un brainwashed until they are in their 30's.

The American Dream was fabricated by Hollywood to justify why famous, successful people are better than the rest of us normal lowlifes. It should die!
