The 2.8 V6 is a lame engine. The 3.1 is the same engine only with more displacement and it is way better, but be forewarned that a lot of that is because it is fuel injected. A small block chevy engine will do more than perk it up. It will make it a screamer, but it is not a bolt in operation. How handy are you?

According to my book 10 deg BTDC @ 800 to 850 RPM for auto, 1000 RPM for a stick shift.

timing is about 8 to 10 degrease BTC (before top dead center) or advanced at about 850 rpms if automatic,
if manual then 1000 rpms

you will need to put est in bypass mode to set it . sets on 8 or 10degrees unplug est conn!
