How can you move your sims 2 characters to new neighbor hoods and to downtown?

I have Sims2 and all the expansions packs up to Family Fun Stuff. and I am not able to find out how you can move your characters to different neighborhoods or to the downtown area. Can anyone help me please?

When I said up to Family Fun Stuff that inclues it.

On the blue dial at the bottom left, click on the icon with the three people, and it should open the 'family bin'. There will be at about 4 o'clock an icon with family and a downward pointing arrow. Just click on that and then choose the family you want to move.

They will be dumped into the family bin. Then go to the area you want to move them to. If downtown (you have NL) then at the top of the screen choose the downtown icon and go to your downtown. Then click on the bottom dial again and the family icon.Choose the family you want to move and put them on the downtown lot you want (the lots families can live in with have green light around them)

MOVING them to a new neighborhood is different. Each neighborhood has its own database of relationships, sims and history, developing stories, etc. If you want to move a family from Pleasantview to another place they will lose every single one of their friends and like moving to a foreign country. The only way to do move between neighborhoods is to "package" the lot that the family is on.

To do that, click on the house of the family you want to move. When the white box with all the family name and descriptions comes up, look for the arrow icon that is pointed at an asterisk. This is how you package the lot - be sure to use a name you will remember, for that lot and family. When packaging is done, it will tell you where the lot has been packaged (it will be in your My Documents\EA\The Sims 2 -- packaged lot folder.

You will then need to install that package into the desired neighborhood. You need to shut down your game, then find that packaged lot in the said folder and double click it. It will put the house and family into the house bin (with that family).

Now start up your game and go to the hood you want the family moved to, and open up the house bin.They should bin in the bin and you can drag them and their house (or empty lot if that's all they had) to a new place. When you play them, they will have no memory of Pleasantview or wherever they came from. They can no longer call friends from that other town's database.

Have fun. It's a great way to save favorite sims. People put their favorite families into packages and save them on disk (sometimes on the Exchange, but that's not permanent if you get culled) so that if something happens to their game, the family can be gotten again without permanent loss.
