Yes I think it has. Most rap I have heard advocates violence against others. It also reinforces the idea that women are to be abused and are sex objects soley for sexual gratification of males

I would say that its probably a reflection of values that had already arose from other circumstances.

So, its not gangster rap that damages values, but rather its popularity is a result of values that have arisen (or degraded, if you will) by much broader circumstances.

On that note, why are violent, superfluous and banal movies so popular?

Why has television and mass media in general continued to become more superficial, egotistic, and often times downright sadistic?

Why are people, in general, so insecure, fearful, self-doubtful and oftentimes cynical and bitter?

So much so that they need to bolster themselves with attitudes and images that make them feel strong and powerful on the outside, while within they feel just as fearful and impotent?

These are all questions which pertain to this issue, and the much greater issues of which it is a small part.

In its heyday, it was very destructive in portraying negative behavior, but it's foolish to believe that it's solely responsible for the degradation of American values -- which, in itself is also a pretty broad subject. What is your definition of "American values?" Other genres of music, as well as other forms of media, have contributed just as much as, if not more than, gangster rap. I suggest you take time to research these topics.

oh you are just another racist looking for a feel good day.

well , what about rock and roll, heavy metal, and those racist songs that advocate 5000% worst than rap!!! you won't see nothing wrong with that because you are looking for any wrong with black only, not with everybody or this country.

You need to go and work on your weakness and your insecurity

In your sick mind white people do everything right, and black are the root of everything wrong with this world.

if you want to look for thing wrong with black, you can 100's, so does with white people!!!

why 98% child molester , rapist , serial killer, white collared crimes are committed by white?

The media can hide the wrong doing of white people, and broadcast evening any little thing a black person done. that doesn't mean people doesn't know the real nature of white people!!!

you need a good reality check

Any 'music' form that advocates violence and immoral activity is bound to do damage. That was the original argument against rock and roll. It is even more true today.
