A modern car with computer-controlled emissions does not need to be warmed up for 5 minutes in order to run well. However, the engine will benefit from a short warm-up period of about 1 minute if the outside temp is very cold. I also suggest that you go easy on the throttle when you're just starting up and driving away.

If you like the idea of not spending lots of money on engine repairs, it's prudent to idle at least 2 minutes after a cold start. HOWever, you can get away with just driving really slowly to start with, does the same thing, lets all the engine parts achieve normal temperature...depends on where you live, and how fast you're going to have to get on the gas to keep with the flow of traffic etc...

it is not required, but letting the engine warm-up will help you in the long run. i would only warm it up for about two to three minutes, because you are burning gas even when the car is idling.

No, but it does help to get all the fluids warm. It helps the oil
get to a thinner viscosity, which in turn enhances egine lubrication.

5 minutes is too long a minute will do all it needs to do to circulate all the oil through the system.
