Wow, I can't believe he said that, I would think twice about going out with him again you don't want to be with someone that is still hung up on someone else.

Owch, thats gotta make you wonder..
Cant really tell from just that, you would have to find out more, he thinks that he has already made the biggest mistake of his life (not marrying the old g/f)
there are 2 thing that he may think, possibly both in a mood swing way:
1 she was the best there ever could be, anything else is second best
2 given a similar situation he wont make the same mistake twice and determine to hold onto the next chance
not much help yet i guess, but without knowing what % time he spends in each case you cant tell. You will have to find out

You need some straight-up ANSWERS, girlfriend! Either this man wants to avoid making the same mistakes of the past with YOU.....or else he is still carrying the torch for someone else & is simply "jerking your chain" as he awaits her return (which will probably NEVER happen)! I'm not advising you to dump him cold at this point, but I do think you have the right to know whether or not you are simply wasting your time - as he pines endlessly for someone who has moved on for good!
NO ONE wants to be "second fiddle" in someone else's life, so if he sees you as nothing more than a "temporary substitute", beware of investing all your emotions in this man before it's too late!!!!

After a certain age we all feel that there is one person we maybe should have married.... but the regrets don't necessarily mean that we are unable to go on with the future.
I think you should feel glad that he was willing to tell you this, but also proceed with caution at the same time because if this was a first or second date then maybe he is too hung up on her to waste your time proceeding with.

Curious.....
Ok he was honest. But why should he have married her and why didn't he and what would he do different WHEN he meets someone else that becomes important to him.
Depending on how old you/he are/is a person may have some regrets on how they handled thigs in the past. As long as it STAYS in the past.
Good Luck

Feel challenged. Feel good that he trusted you enough to be honest. If you like the guy pursue it, and try to be even better than the GF he let get away. If not into him that much, let it roll off of you and kick him to the curb. Just be sure you choose what is best for YOU.

i can see why you would feel hurt. If he's saying that he obviously regrets not having married her. He shouldn't have said that, but maybe he didn't realize how his words may have hurt you. Talk to him about it and tell him how they made you feel. It sounded like he still has feelings for her so ask him to be honest with you.

He probably regrets that a relationship he enjoyed ended. It sounds to me like he made a mistake, but that has nothing to do with you.
I regret some of the things that happened in my past and kick myself sometimes, but I give 100% to new relationships, and am the wiser for the mistakes I made when I was younger...
It is called learning, and hopefully we all do it. Look at your past and use that persepctive to understand his...

I wouldn't worry to much about that. We all have past loves, and regrets about those loves. I am totally, madly, deeply, passionately in love with my hubby but there are a few b/f's in my past that I think I would have been happy if I had married them. But that doesn't mean that I regret my decision to marry my hubby.

If I were you I'd feel kinda wierd about it. He must still have some kind of feelings for her. I think if you are serious about this guy that you should bring this to his attention so he can either set your mind at ease or give you a red flag.
