It might not fly, it would face more scrutiny today obviously.
But that's what was so great about Mel Brooks. He would put those racial slurs and stereotypes out in the open so that he could expose how silly they were.

But it should be noted that Richard Pryor helped write that movie, so the racism was handled well -- by showing its ignorance and by having a black hero (Cleavon Little).

Yes he could, PC police interfere with TV, but not movies so much. Comedy movies today poke fun at stereotypes (Not Another Teen Movie, Scary Movie 1-4, Beer League, and so on) and that's all Blazing Saddles does.

Ban that hoary old thing? Good grief, it's a kindergartner's tale nowadays compared to the sewage they allow on the big screen.
Nah - the only reason they'd ban it is if Mel criticised George Bush!

If you have a copy, you'd better hide it before the PC police raid your house. They will replace it with a clean version, about half the original length.

Hahahahahaa...

No way. This excellent comedy would never be screened; at least not without a triple X rating (for offensive, racist language!) and a note from your Mom.

It would come out. The Aristocrats came out and had worse dialogue. And the Forty Year old Virgin was far dirtier.

I don't think it would be banned but I don't think people would be able to treat it as tongue-in-cheek as it was back then .. we've become to sensitive these days ...
