Aw xxluv. As a Christian I am suppose to care. The bible calls homosexuality an abominatin and it is. Even good ol' George W opposes it. If God opposes it and George W. opposes it, that's good enough for me. What are you? UnAmerican?

Aw DK. But it is a matter of religion. The word of God strongly condones marriage. It is a union between a man and a woman. Even state law defines marriage as a union between a man and a woman. Surely, you can't argue that?

Ah, Seaweed, but they aren't like regular couples are they? No they are not. Homosexuality is an abomination and a sin against God and nature.

Juanita2 they don't have to get married to do that. They can continue to do what they have been doing all along. Living a sinful and immoral life. A generic marriage won't change that. Law makers in Massachusetts haven't changed it either.

Aw Water Goddess. You live in blindness. God doesn't recognize homosexual marriages and He never will. It is an abomination. While the laws of the land may change the word of God doesn't. If you think it will you are only fooling yourself.

Ah Westend, you couldn't be any more wrong than you are right now. Perhaps you need to pick up your bible. First of all you have to accept Jesus as your personal Saviour, that is what gets you into heaven. The bible also says that faith without works is dead, which also means you have to live your life accordingly. You can't claim to love the Lord but live a lifestyle contrary to the word of God. Sorry but you just can't do it. You can't serve two masters.

Ah yes Naples, but do you realize that the number in each of those categories doubles in gay relationships. I admit that there are a lot of heterosexual couples who shouldn't be married. They are primarily called atheists. These are primarily the people guilty of these actions. However, I have to admit there are also those impersonating as Christians that are guilty as well. However, homosexuality is what it is. An abomination.

I haven't a clue. Except that they don't understand the purpose of marriage. Maybe it's to prove a point. But the average gay/lesbian relationship lasts 1.5 years. and the average gay/lesbian marriage last about 3 years. I'd recommend saving one's money (from an attorney for a divorce) and stop trying to push illicit and immoral marriage.

Let me start by saying that there is a HUGE amount of religious belief and a huge number of religious groups not based in the Bible at all -- including Christian groups, and there are non-Christian religious groups -- but you manage to highlight the struggle without realizing it.
The gay marriage fight is really a battle between two groups of religious denominations - Christian and other in both cases. That battle is being missed by the media, and I believe that the battle threatens democracy in America.
One of the reasons for the Revolution, in which ancestors of mine fought -- was to establish freedom of religion in the new nation. Now, we are throwing that away, because contrary to what those on the Right would like you to think, this is not a battle between "people of faith" and "atheists" or some such -- this is a battle between two groups of people of faith, using the government to establish one side’s views -- the EXACT THING that the anti-establishmentarian clause of the Constitution is there to prevent.
Of course no one should "make" those whose faiths oppose gay marriage perform such marriages, and no one ever would. So ministers from the Southern Baptists and Assemblies of God and Ultra-Orthodox Jews and Fundamentalist Muslims should never be asked to perform gay marriages, and certainly not forced to.
On the other hand, why should faith groups that support gay marriage -- such as the United Church of Christ, the Unitarian/Universalist Society, the North American Spiritualist Church, Reform Judaism, and the Correllian Tradition of Wicca -- all recognized Churches and 501c3s be barred from practicing their religious faiths, which say it is ok to marry same sex couples?
The first group of faith groups is realistically using the government to prevent the second group of faith groups from practicing what they believe and having it legally recognized. The founders tried to prevent this, for the stability of the country. It doesn't matter that everyone "thinks" they are right and others are wrong -- it matters that we are plural as a society and the government should recognize everyone's ceremonies the same -- which means that gay marriages committed by churches and faith groups that believe in gay marriages, should be honored by the government regardless of what groups that don't like it say.
Everyone's beliefs can be honored, thus preserving the values that my 12 times removed Great Grandfather died for -- but not if we allow one side to legislate away the rights of the other side.
Since I do not believe the government should be used to control religious belief -- I think that the government should recognize gay marriage, when performed by members of clergy -- and should create a civil union equivalent for those interested only in secular marriage.
Otherwise we should stop saying we don't have an establishment of religion.

Reynolds Jones

PS To suchfun -- I would be interested in having a citation for your notation -- it doesn't match what I know. My partner and I have been together nearly 15 years. We know gay couples that have been together as long as 45 years. Could you please give me the cite for your statistic? I would be interested in knowing who (other than Paul Cameron) it was.

Most gays don't care if the chruch recognizes their relationship. Marriage is more a legal ceremony than religious, in most cases, these days. Why don't I deserve the same protections under the state as anyone else because my lover is a woman? The church and state are supposed to be separate. Church morality should have nothing to do with the law.
Besides, do you eat shellfish? Do you know any guys with long hair or girls with short hair? Do you know girls who hang out with guys when on their period? Because these all go against the word of god.
If you can eat shrimp, I can eat p*ssy.

Well I think marriage is more of a general term. Maybe they want the same rights and privilages as a married couple would. Marriage is between a man and a woman. That's what it is. So it's not marriage if a man and a man or a woman and a woman do so, but that doesn't mean they can't have the same rights as if a man and a woman were joined through God.

My gf and I share an apartment,we paid half each for it but if someone of us dies, what would happen with our families? Will they want their share ? I surely hope not as I for one wouldnt want my gf to start from scratch. So if it was legalized, there wouldnt be any problems for both parties. Other then that I don't know as we live under the same roof, we go to mass every sunday,we do comunity work, we are not in any way a burden to others,we do alot more than other people do since we have extra time on our hands without raising kids .Under the eyes of God I feel loved ,thats whats most important to me. If most people with sins love me for who I am , how much God Almighty would love me more ?

Their concept of God and their interpretation of the word of God may not be the same as yours. They have a right to hold different theological ideas. This right is granted to them by the First Ammendment to the Constitution.
Even if gays and lesbians are banned from marrying by particular churches--churches whose members who may be against gay marriage for reasons that are also protected by the First Ammendment--they are free to seek out other churches and even to form churches of their own.
They have an even clearer right to marry in a civil ceremony, since these are conducted and sanctioned by the state, not by a religious body.
They seek the legal, economic, and pyschological benefits of marriage for exactly the same reasons that straight people do. Straight people do not marry for purely religious reasons, and to say or imply that they do is sheer hypocrisy.

Hey Cave Man -
I know you might not agree with me....but I want to be able to marry my partner for the same reason my parents got married. Because they love each other and want to spend the rest of their lives together in a commited relationship.
While I fully understand the arguments for and against gay marriage both politically and religiously, I feel that when two human beings feel enough for each other that they are willing to commit their lives to each other, society as a whole is better off.

By your God maybe, not mine. Why do straight people get married? It's not an issue of religion, it's an issue of the state. Why should I be denied the same rights given to straight couples? What if I didn't believe in God, would you still care?
Next time think about what you say before you open your mouth and stick your foot in it.

who said it was supposed to be recognized by god.... Marriage in the USA is a legal contract. Ask any divorce lawyer! Even when you get married in church... A marriage licenses has to be purchased, and the priest, minister, religious dude doing the marriage has to have a government issued license!
The aspect of marriage and religion has no legal binding! The marriage certificate is what is recognized as proof of marriage.
They could go anywhere to get married... Why in the hell would they even want to get married in a church?
You freaky bible thumpers never seem to amaze me with your narrow minded stupidity.

People get married to join together in love.
Because it doesn't. God is love.
Anyways God already recognizes marriages between lesbian, gay, straight, bisexual people. It's the laws of the land that need to catch up.

So they would get more benefits. I heard of a lesbian couple, one of them got into an accident and the hospital wouldn't let her girlfriend into the room with her. If that was her wife, it wouldn't have happened. Gay marriage is about the benefits marriage provides, not about god. Straight people who get married aren't always doing it for god anyway.
