The 'X' is pronounced as 'sh'
So it is sounded out as "shinying"

It's Chinese? No way, really? Wouldn't have guessed. SHIN-ying. Xao = SHYAOW. Easy, and I'm white with a Japanese background. How did you think it was pronounced? Did you graduate high-school? Did you GO to school? How are you alive?

"X" as the first letter of a word is usually pronounced as a "Z" .. Of course there is X-Ray so it is not always this way.
