A person can be anyone they choose to be online and, unfortunate though it is, the internet gave con artists, thieves and others of that ilk a whole new venue to exploit.
I'm sure you've seen pictures of him, but how do you know it's really him? Have you given him very particular parameters in which to have a picture of himself taken? Such as "have someone take your picture with you leaning up against a tree; i'd like you to hold a can of Coca-Cola in your left hand; wear a blue shirt and etc, etc, etc." If not, then you don't really know who you're talking with.
A member of my extended family (a female) went through some very weird thought processes starting in her young teens and continuing into her early 20's. None of us understood why, but she would steal pictures of other people from all over the internet and then use whatever picture she'd stolen and tell young men it was her. On more than one occasion, a young man would fly in or drive a long, long way to meet her and she would, of course, fail to show up to meet him ..... except for a couple of times and when the young man was expecting slender, gorgeous, perfect figure, blonde "M" what he got was quite large, dark headed, dressed like a homeless person, real "M."
In terms of maniacs, Georgia isn't that far from Florida, either.
You're not stupid for falling for someone over the internet; but, you haven't really fallen for the guy at all ~ what you've fallen for is what *he* has told you about himself, what *you* have fantasized him to be, and the *idea* of the perfect guy.
Try to put yourself on the outside of this situation and really, honestly think of how you would advise your baby sister or your best friend or even your own Mom if either of them had come to you asking this same question. How concerned for them would you be? Make a list of all the issues you would bring up for them to think about. Be really, really honest with yourself in this exercise ~ don't justify your own behavior; really do this.

Many people meet the love of their lives on the internet, some even end up marrying them. If you both truly love eachother and are willing to make a long distance relationship work, then go for it. You will be in GA, which is pretty close to him, so it won't be all that bad. You just have to decide what you want and what you are willing to sacrifice for love.

I have quite a few friends that have met people over the internet, and ended up moving to the same place, and they are very happy. Just be careful, because as you know, you never know who you are REALLY talking to on here.

Not stupid, just be careful. Besides, this is the noveau way to meet people. It might be safer than trying to meet a guy at a night club, too.

It's better than falling in love in real life:
Costs less money, less time, and less tears when you break up:P
Seriously, if you don't take it too seriously, it's ok. It could help you feel less lonely and give you emotional satisfaction without wasting much energy. Just don't trust anyone in Internet.

yes it is stupid, why? it is very easy to fall for the fantasy of who your chatting with, then who the person really is. Online they can create and control your exposure to them, while in real life they cant hide everything.
