in the bottom left hand corner of the screen, error on page. Is this the reason, why it won't let me log into my account

quite possibly yes that could be the problem.
so trty and clear your internet browser cache of all history and cookies.
now try and reload the page if there is still an error try running a malware scan at www.trendmicro.com and select the online scan for your system MAC or PC, then wait, clean any malware and try again.
and change your security details and password if your malware scan reveals any password steelers or other key loggers.

It could be your firewall, hold down the CTL key when click sign in.
