okay i absolutely love this movie! i mean who cares if gay people are in it or aids... its about really life. the actors are amazing and te songs are just wonderful! i get them stuck in my head all the time nd i basically watch the movie almost everyday. if you dont like this movie uhh your stupid =] haha just kidding . but this truely is one of my fave. movies

I adore Rent. Its my all time favorite musical and it is one of the only things that I can really say has changed my life.
I'm not the biggest fan of the movie. The movie is a very mediocre one, and - with a story that original and good - it could have [and should have] been an amazing one. The only saving grace of the movie, I feel, is the cast - deciding to get almost the entire original Broadway cast of the movie was a very good decison! But I feel that the movie really should have been so much better. I wasn't happy with a lot of Chris Columbus' [the director] decisions - but its definitely not as bad as it could have been - a few years earlier there was a script buzzing around the Rent community that not only cut out most of the songs but involved JUSTIN TIMBERLAKE starring as Mark - but I was still disappointed.
But I don't want to be all negative! Rent - the story and the stage version - is truly amazing. It seemed to have a similar effect on me as it did on you, it helped me to live everyday to its fullest and to really LIVE my life.

No, I don't think the play translated well to cinema. Too morose a subject, and depressing plot. I had no sympathy for people who don't work, don't pay rent who want to complain about landlords who expect them to pay rent.
