You can wear a swimsuit or underwear if it makes you more comfortable but most people tan without clothing on. You can wear lotions that they sell at the salon- but some of them have a "tingle effect" that you may not like... I would not start with one of them. You lie in a tube like bed, and yes, you have to wear eye protection- most salons will supply them for you. For the first time- I would only go for about 15 minutes- to make sure that you don't burn... after that, you can go for 20-30 minutes. There is usually music and a fan to cool you down. Tell the staff that it is your first time and they will show you how to work the bed.

They will provide the goggles and advice on how long to be exposed.
You can wear or not wear whatever you want as you are on your own and it ii completely private.
I didn't use lotion, but you can.
There are 2 types of booths (that I know of) horizontal and vertical. I preferred the vertical, which means you stand in the middle of the booth and are surrounded by vertical lamps. I found that this covered the sides of the body much better.
They have a powerfull fan which blows air thru the Booth to keep you cool.
The lamps will shut down automatically when you time is up.
Price is around $10 per session.
I went for 5 or 6 sessions to prepare my skin for 2 mos in the sun in Mexico. It worked very well, I was able to tan immediately in Mexico.
I'm not sure how effective it will be to sustain a tan.

If you must tan make sure you wear goggles. Yuo have to or you could burn your corneas. Closing you eyes won't help, you must wear goggles. Tanning lotion is also a mut if you don't want to dry out. It will also give you a better, longer lasting tan. And you can go naked if you want but if you have any white parts on your body ie. your butt, you might want to cover it with a towel for the last couple minutes. Generally it's not too expensive if you buy a package of tans. Don't feel shy to ask the people who work there, that's what they're there for.

You seem tan already! :-) i'm guessing you tan actual. if so, one consultation will make a huge difference. that's the equivalent of a few hours contained in the solar, so that you'll gauge how darkish you receives that way. 4-5 classes for a base tan is precise, yet probable for someone with a form 3 pores and skin (overall Caucasian who tans steadily yet okay). you seem to be a darker pores and skin type. Have the salon promote you a pattern length of the tanning lotion to placed on before you get contained in the mattress. you'll tan more effective constructive as your pores and skin will be moisturized. be effective to ask for advice about how lengthy to stay contained in the mattress. Even darkish pores and skin can burn and a tanning mattress burn is painful and deep. i ought to placed on undies and a bra. those aspects may burn the first time and burned breasts would not seem very fairly.

don't buy the lotion it's a rip off. just put your own moisturizer on after you get out to rehydrate your skin. i wear my underwear but not a top because of tan lines. you can wear a goggle set if you want but i wouldn't, just shut ur eyes.

Sunlight and artificial sunlight such as that used in tanning salons emits three different types of electromagnetic radiation in the ultraviolet range—UVA, UVB and UVC. All three can cause health problems. Since past studies had shown UVB to be the most dangerous, the tanning industry responded by lowering levels of UVB emitted by their equipment. However, new studies show that those lower levels of UVB still pose potentially significant health risks and that UVA may pose more of a risk than was previously thought. Tanning salons use high-intensity UVA devices, which gives us a practically chance to study the effects of UVA by itself. However, the UVA bulbs used by tanning salons still emit 0.3% to 4.6% UVB, a potentially significant amount.
Long-term exposure to the sun, to artificial sources of ultraviolet light or to both, contributes to the risk of the three kinds of skin cancer: basal cell, an otherwise benign skin cancer that can cause scarring; squamous cell, which is usually benign but which can spread through the body if left untreated; and the aforementioned melanoma, one of the most fatal kinds of cancer.
UVA primarily effects the dermis. Shortwave ultraviolet rays (UVB) can burn the outer layer of skin; longwave ultraviolet rays (UVA) penetrate more deeply and can weaken the skin's inner connective tissue. Some epidermal changes include intercellular edema, perinuclear vacuolization, nucleolar prominence and occasional exocytosis of lymphocytes.
There are over 20,000 tanning salons in the United States that are used by approximately two million people per day at peak times in the winter. Some one to two million Americans attend tanning salons more than 100 times per year. Over 1 million people develop some form of skin cancer each year. More than 90 percent of skins cancers occur on areas regularly exposed to ultraviolet radiation, which is considered to be the chief cause, and a major source of our ultraviolet radiation exposure is tanning beds.
Don't do it, it may look good in the short term, but THERE IS NO SUCH THING AS A SAFE TAN! Besides have you ever seen the leathery skin of middle-aged women who have tanned their whole lives? EUCK
