Which is a better major, economics or business admin.? Is one favored over the other by employers?

business administration would make more sense if you are after immediate employment since economics majors are looked upon by most as more theoretical thinkers as opposed to practical and they tend to be more apt to pursue graduate studies...but i do suggest you take an mba after to heighten your chances for landing a decent paying job

Business administration may not be a "better" major but it is more rounded. Business admin is like studying the world, where as economics is like studying the US only. Simply put unless you have already determined the career path that you want to take, economics will limit the opportunities that you have. Bus. admin on the other hand will present you with more opportunities because you have to study a variety of things to get the degree. Also with Business admin you might find a particular thing that really interests you then you can specialize in that when you go to get your master's degree.

I'm not sure that one is better than the other -- nor would one be favored by employers.

An economics degree will include more theory and will go into topics in more depth. A business degree will be broader and more practical. There is a need for both types in business.

If I had it to do over again, I would major in economics, while taking all of my electives in business and mathematics.

It all depends on what job you want. To begin a career as an Economist, it's better to have the more focused degree in Economics.

However, for most people, a general business degree is sufficient because you get an introduction to a wide variety of business fields (accounting, economics, marketing, management, etc.).
