My brother just a had a stroke 13 hours ago. he just wokeup a little bit trying to talk but went back to sleep. Both his legs and arms are ok. his BP was 190/110 . he is just 24 years old....The doctors aren't really talking ?! They got his BP under control. Whats going to happend next? Is he going to keep sleeping or do they wake up?what happends after u have a stroke? I hate when they doctors have little to say.

I had a stroke back in 1980 when i was 31. I burst a (weak walled) blood vessel in my brain. I wasn't made unconscious by it. Since you mention getting his "blood pressure under control" I suggest that its probably a burst blood vessel.
They can operate and drain the blood from the affected area but only if it's done within a few hours...but they didn't do that in my day. It left me with a slight dis-co-ordination on my right side but at the time, i was much worse with no feeling whatsoever down that side for a few weeks until most of it gradually returned. I learnt to write with my left hand and still have a slight limp. They usually can't tell you much for about 3 or 4 days to see if the effects are only temporary, hence their reluctance to speculate.
The amount of damage done by the leak of blood determines how much use you might get back...as for me, I'm sure that miniscule improvements are happening even now as my brain finds new paths for the neurons to follow but the most significant improvements will happen over the first 2 to 6 weeks.
The effects can be totally life-changing but as your brother is only 24, and assuming it is in fact a stroke, he has a good chance of recovering almost all of the use of his limbs and faculties.

You will need to await further developments.

Two types of conditions are commonly called a "stroke"

In one type, a small clot shoots off from the heart or maybe from the neck artery and causes a blockage in the brain... that part of the brain receives no blood and hence stops working. Early on in this type of stroke doctors are looking at using clot busting drugs (similar to what they use for heart attacks) but 13 hours is too late to do this.

Your brother having high BP makes me wonder if it is the other kind of stroke, ie. a bleed into the brain (sometimes from too much BP) affecting the brain tissue.

In this second kind of stroke, if the bleed is near the surface (often they will do a CAT/CT scan of the brain) sometimes you can have surgery to take it out. Many times, though, it is in the middle of the brain substance. Occasionally the neurosurgeons can get in there and clip off the bleeding artery but this is a very iffy thing.

I'm sorry your brother's doctors are not communicating well with you.

At this stage you gotta wait it out.

Soon to come - you see what sort of changes your brother is left with and then he probably needs to get some physiotherapy for wear arm/leg... re-hab - to retrain a weak leg or arm... speech pathology if he is having difficulty with his speech or eating... this sort of thing

wow!he's very young.do they know the cause?do you know if he was on any meth?my father had a stroke when he was 47 it was really scary!the cause was he had high blood presure&was under the substance methaphenamine.they had to get a neural surgeon to go in and stop the bleeding in his brain, you do know that your brother most likely has bleeding in his brain that's why he is not waking up another word is anuarion,i know i spelt that wrong sorry.well i don't want to scare you but your brother is very sick wright now one good thing is if he's a strong person he can pull through this.the outcome could go several ways.he may die i pray that doesn't happen or he may permanatly become paralized on one side of his body,or become temporaly paralized on one side of his body.he also may need to learn how to speak, eat, walk all over again.my father has been paralized on his left side of body for 9 years now,he was really close to death the surgeon didn't want to do the surgery he told us my dad would die during operation any ways so we made the surgeon take him to surgery what did we have to lose?we prayed and prayed during this 8 hr surgery and he made it through little did we know that we had another month before he would awake he still had a machine breathing for him,it was so stressful.today my dad talks eats walks little steps sometimes most of the time he is wheelchair bound.good luck to you and your family i will keep your brother in prayer,be strong for him and make sure you and your family stay by one another habd in hand and all in agreement that your brother will make it through this terrrible tragidy.if you can start reading the book of spalms in the bible also have someone who has christisn faith pray the sinners prayer to him so that he may be able to hear who is speaking to him even if he doesnt resond he can still hear everyone and it's mostly scary for him.my dad said he heard all of us and he wanted so bad to be able to talk to us it was the scariest thing he's ever been thru.i hope and pray your brother finds the peace in his heart while gouing thr this.love will prevail over this situation.hasve your mom pray for him a mothers prayer is the strongest.i rellky wish the best 4 u and your family i know exactly what you are going thru.

You've mentioned nothing at all about his weight; his health in general; his eating or exercise habits.
He "may" have some memory problems. He "may" have some heart damage, or possibly some loss of limb usage for a while.
He needs to start eating more healthily & taking a quality vitamin/mineral supplement.
An evening stroll around the block will help, too.
Drink more water; eat more fruits & veggies while cutting back on pop, pastries & red meats.
