Marsha Linehan believes that one of the predisposing factors to Borderline Personality Disorder is coming from an invalidating environment. What is more invalidating than sexual abuse?
Studies show that many, but not all individuals with BPD report a history of abuse, neglect, or separation as young children.8 Forty to 71 percent of BPD patients report having been sexually abused, usually by a non-caregiver. Researchers believe that BPD results from a combination of individual vulnerability to environmental stress, neglect or abuse as young children, and a series of events that trigger the onset of the disorder as young adults. Adults with BPD are also considerably more likely to be the victim of violence, including rape and other crimes. This may result from both harmful environments as well as impulsivity and poor judgement in choosing partners and lifestyles.

I'm not sure about borderline personality disorder, but I know that there is a strong correlation between sexual abuse victims and disassociative identity disorder (just to clarify, disassociative identity disorder is what Sybil had, not borderline, like a previous answerer said).

sexual abuse is one of the many things that can cause certain borderline personalities. Look at Cybil she was physically and sexually assaulted.
I have that problem and was abused both ways.
I could not find exact percentile but strongest for females by 79 percent. Have a good one:-)

I attended DBT and from what I observed, everyone in our group had been sexually abused at some point in their life.
