If Ice Skating is a sport, then Darts is definitely one!
Ice skating, gymnastics, diving, and ALL judged events are really "performing arts" that take training and skill. Darts is not a judged event but a sport with an obvious score.
white61water down below, Auto Racing is really not a sport either, people only watch it for the wrecks

This question has been asked several times on this board.
Sport as defined by Webster's: "a : a source of diversion : RECREATION b (1) : physical activity engaged in for pleasure (2) : a particular activity (as an athletic game) so engaged in"
If golf can be called a sport, then darts certainly qualifies. It takes a golfer hours to hit a ball 70 - 100 times. I throw darts in a luck of the draw, and I throw hundreds of times in the same 4 hours. And, I don't get to ride back and forth in a little cart.
Darts is not a game of luck, it requires skill. Don't believe me? Let's play for money...

Yabba dabba doo, the following are also along with darts considered sports by our sports guru ESPN:
Fishing
Spelling
Bowling
Auto Racing
Poker (Poker a bunch of fat bellied guys sitting around a table lifting those heavy cards and ESPN says it is a sport?????)
Frisbee Golf
Dog shows
They throw in these filler shows because the real sports (Football, baseball, basketball, tennis, golf, hockey, lacrosse, softball, etc) are seasonal and not always ready for prime time viewing so ESPN makes up sports for the feeble minded in the good old USA to watch and buy the sponsors products.
O I forgot to add surfing to the real sports.

Check out this article by Patrick Chaplin:
Most of us knew it already but the great news today (25th March 2005) is that Sport England has, at last, recognised darts as a sport.
It’s taken a long, long time for those with the power to agree. How long has it taken? Well, I can recall providing information to my local MP for Maldon and East Chelmsford, John Whittingdale OBE, for a debate in the House of Commons back in June 1996. Mr. Whittingdale, currently the Shadow Minister for Culture, has always fought rigorously for darts recognition.
But one other MP who took up the metaphorical cudgels way back when and has fought even more rigorously than anyone else in Parliament to secure sport status for darts is Bob ‘Silver Fox’ Russell, the MP for Colchester. When the Chairman of the Professional Darts Corporation, Barry Hearn, heard the news that Sport England had classed darts as a sport he told Planetdarts, “I’d like to specifically thank…Bob Russell for his hard work in promoting this cause.”
The announcement that Sport England had finally recognised darts and officially classed it as a sport came just twenty four hours after Phil Taylor, Colin Lloyd and Bob Anderson joined over fifty MPs in a special exhibition of darts at the Houses of Parliament on 23rd March. Speaking to Planetdarts, Chairman Barry Hearn said, “I’m delighted. It’s the news we have been waiting for and we believe darts deserves."

In my opinion, no it isn't. The first time I played (when a kid) I surely didn't "train" for throwing the dart at the target. It's ridiculous. The only time it should be considered a sport is when you're goofing around with your friends and aiming for them instead! LOL

Darts is a game, not a sport. It's on a level with dominoes, cards, chess, quoits and so on. Sports entail physical activity and throwing three darts and walking s few yards to the board to retrieve them is hardly 'sport'.

People can get fixated on any activity. I would ask the same question about golf. I have rarely heard of reading described as a sport although a lot of people seem to do it, and quite a few care about how fast they do it as well. Curious isn't it?
