Which came first - the chicken or the egg? "The chicken" came first - in the sentence of the question. If the question is phrased differently, the answer is different.

Ok, i would think the chicken came first. The chicken would evolve from an older species.....then one unexpected day, the chicken would have to have laid an egg, then the cycle begins over again. The chicken would have to have come first, cuz it's a living thing. It's way more possible to have something lay an egg thru evolution then to have an egg just appear outta no where.

The question is supposed to be used as a logical paradox. ie: the egg can't be first since a chicken has to lay it and at the same time the chicken can't be first since it had to be born from an egg.
Taking a step beyond this, the answer wil be based on if you believe in evolution or creationism:
evolution - neither one came first since it evolved from early single celled life forms that reproduced by splitting into duplicates & after millenia, evolving & change into fish & dinosaurs & birds etc... According to this, there is no defining moment where there is the very first chicken
creation - God decided to make a chicken & it was so.
Personally, I think using God as an answer to every question is the sign of a mind that doesn't want to think for itself. (just my opinion & not part of the official answer)

The egg came next right after the chicken came first. There was a race between two nations. For stories sake let's say it was the U. S. S. R. and the U. S. The Soviet's reported that they came in second the the U. S. came in next to last.

the egg would have came first because the course of evolution all changes were made in the womb so the chicken came out of the egg of another creature that had to evolve to live.

the chicken that gave live birth gave way and became extinct to the other group of chickens that evolved into egg laying chickens. why some people drop in and just write egg baffles me, i think they will be the next group of idiot moron nonthinking humans to go extinct. nonthinking people have a shorter life span therefore less offspring so their group should get smaller and smaller until they just disappear. i hope it does not take to long.
