Ha! Funny that she mentioned they smell like alcohol. I have been using Wintergreen rubbing alcohol as aftershave for awhile now. I like the burn you only get with real alcohol based after-shaves. I prefer Old Spice. But of the two you mentioned I pick Brut.

brut is better than aqua velva, IMO
old spice is better than brut, IMO
expensive crap from expensive department stores is a waste of money

How gross, I sneeze with those plus old spice stuff. Just good soap and water and a nice cologne like drakkar or something else nice is fine.
