According to "What to Expect When You're Expecting", mild swelling of the ankles, feet, hands, and face is quite common. It is reported that 75% of pregnant women experience some form of swelling during their pregnancy. (The 7th month is notorious for swelling!!)
Drinking at least eight-ten 8-ounce glasses of liquid will help flush your system of waste products (although even drinking a few glasses may give you relief.) Some women find that laying down (or sleeping) gives them some relief.
If the swelling lasts for more than 24 hours or is painful, please contact your doctor. If the swelling is accompanied by rapid weight gain, a rise in blood pressure, and protein in your urine, it could be a sign of preclampsia (pregnancy-induced hupertension.)
My favorite resources for health information are webmd.com and medlineplus.gov. Good luck!! :)

This sounds a little early for hand swelling, although it could be completely normal. Everybody does pregnancy a little differently. Ask your doctor to check you for preclampsia. Another possibility is carpal tunnel syndrome, which may be exacerbated by the increased fluids of pregancy. Ask your doctor at your next visit and see if he or she can help. Until then, try to spend some time with your hands elevated above the level of your heart. The elevation should encourage the fluids to go down and provide you some relief.

I have that problem too. I don't think you can do much about it. There is some kind of chemical released in your body called relaxin and it makes all your joints and ligaments loose and sometimes painful. Move your hands alot to get circulation going. The soreness is normal but you should not have a numb feeling once you move your fingers and hands around a bit. If it's horrible you can take tylenol, but if you can just deal with it for the few months you have left.

I believe you're going to intent yourself ache via doing that earlier than you're going to damage the child. I (1) bought usual sized pants that had been 1 or 2% spandex and that made a tremendous difference, and (2) bought a Bella Band thingie which felt rather bizarre to start with but helped so much. I can fit into the smallest dimension maternity pants they promote at Motherhood now- retailers like that most of the time have smaller sizes than places like goal, it seems. 15 half of weeks i will still put on my ancient pants however no longer very without problems!!

Oh absolutely it's normal. Most people only think your feet will swell - WRONG! Your hands, face, and pretty much every part of your body can swell up. Personally, my hands, face, feet and even legs swelled up when I was in my last few months of pregnancy.
There's not a whole lot you can do. Mostly it's because of water retention. Drink lots of water, and try to avoid foods with excessive salt in them. This will minimize it, but it won't go away completely. Welcome to some of the misery of pregnancy! But luckily, it's temporary, and it'll all be over soon, and you'll get your body back. :o) Good luck, and congratulations!

oh my i had the same thing soooooo bad.
it is call pregnancy arthritis. it is really common because of the fact that your bllod flows 50 percent harder during pregnancy. and i bet you proberly did alot of work with your hands or some kind of sports before hand and of course that makes it worse. the thing i found to relieve it the most, was a good rub and a heating pad. in fact the heating pad worked the best. i kept it by the bed the most because it was the worst when i woke up.
do not be alarmed. it is sooooo normal, a pain in the butt, but normal =)
god bless you and your baby =)

I have a friend who is is 8 months prego and she has pregnancy induced carpal tunnel. she spoke with her doctor and wears a brace at night. She had this happen with her first pregnancy too. After the baby is born she never has any problems then. Just make sure to let your Dr. know you're having this happening. Good luck!

Dear GO TO THE DR, and advise of all SWELLING...this could be due to abnormal amounts of water being retained....and is serious especially if you are eating normally. Ladies, speaking from experience here. I was 125 lbs at the beginning of my pregnancy, the day I delivered I was 200 lbs...MOST FROM water...lost almost all of the weight within 6 weeks of having my son...and THEN they told me they should have hospitalized me...they need to monitor your blood pressure and check your water retention levels...it is going to get worse before it gets better....and watch your emotional levels if you have this imbalance. See a DR for sure!!
