as long as you have regular periods before you conceived, and an early ultrasound can pretty much determine the dates.

If you have an early ultrasound, the doctor should be able to give you a pretty good estimate based on the size of the fetus. On the other hand, all developing babies are different, and the estimates are not perfect. If you go between weeks 6 and 8 and get an ultrasound, the doctor should be pretty close, though.

Between 6-8 weeks, doctors will do a 'dating sonogram' which is supposed to be very accurate on guessing the age of the baby.

Yes, and if your cycles were regular prior to conception, even more closely to the day. With both my sons, I knew the day I conceived and my doctor's estimate was within 1 day.

they are able to guess with in a few days either right on or 6 days or so off. but the second ultrasound at around 18 weeks gives a better guess becasue it's a more in depth look at the baby

Yes. An early ultrasound can show the age of the embryo very precisely (within a day or two).

Yes they told me to the day...and I never had a normal period. I knew they were right because I hadn't had sex for a month before and after but I never told them that.

If you have very regular periods they can. If you are irregular, then you'll need a dating scan which is an ultrasound scan done in hospital.
