having you go to jail for assault isn't going to solve anything.
The girl needs to file a police report. Then she needs to cut off all contact with him, tell her to NOT take him back. Once an apology for hitting is accepted, the probability of it happening again goes way up. If Eric really liked this girl but loses her for good, that'll be an incentive for him to seek help.
Does Eric come from an abusive home? If so, he's likely to become an abuser himself. Talk to him as a friend. Offer to support him getting help. Give him the facts that abuse will land him in jail and give him a permanent record which can keep him from certain schools and jobs.
I've known one-time abusers who were scared straight once they were interviewed by cops for abuse. Also, I was in an abusive relationship for years, kept accepting his apologies and excuses. It doesn't stop until the abusee leaves.
Good luck to you all.

It's not in your place to do anything. Hopefully, his g/f dumped him but for some reason I doubt it. Tell your g/f that she should tell her friend to press charges against him or at the very least, she should break up with him.

Tell her that's not yours or her business. But advise her to tell her girlfriend to dump this guy for good. Don't listen to any of his sob or I'm sorry excuses. It will only get worse and she will end up hurt. You should tell him to get help if he is your friend. If he is not your friend go with her when she breaks it off with him.

Stay out of it,that's between them! But Id question the girlfriend,
She is suppose to be there for you not against you....
by instigating a fight.

Don't do anything you'll regret later on. Your story implies possible fines and/or jail time. Careful where you step!

You shouldn't interfere. That is thier problem and they should figure it out themselves. Your GF should understand.

Tell them that you don't want to have anything to do with a guy like him. He is not even worth it.

STAY OUT OF OTHER PEOPLE'S BUSINESS BEFORE YOU GO TO JAIL.... YOUR G/F IS NOT LOOKING OUT FOR YOU!! YOU NEED TO RE-EVALUATE YOUR RELATIONSHIP!!!
the girl needs to dump him ~~ because, usually, if a man(or boy) hits a woman(or girl) ONCE, he will DO IT AGAIN!!!
