A polynomial is a set of numbers and variables that are combined together. This includes multiplication, addition, subtraction and positive numbers. The values are all usually raised to an exponent. Go 2 Wikipedia for more info. I hated algebra when I had it, haha. Good blessings 2 u on ur test!

polynomial is a function of x that's a sum of different powers of x multiplied by some (fixed) coefficients

3x^2+4x+5 is a polynomial in x. It's called "2nd degree" b/c of x^2 is the highest power.
2x+3 is also a polynomial, but a 1st degree (x=x^1)

3^x is not a polynomial, b/c x appears in the power

Polynomial is used to decribe an equation with one or more terms.
Monomial (mono meaning one): 2x just one term.
Binomial: (Bi meaning two): 3y +6
Trinomial: x2 + 4x + 1 (it is x to the second power or x squared)

You can only give a name to a polynomial in its simplest form and one that uses subtraction, addition, or multipication.

Example: 2y + 3y +4
This is not a trinomial. Try and simplify

2y and 3y are like terms and adding them makes 5y
the new equation will be:

5y + 4 which is a binomial (two terms)

The word polynomial has two parts: poly meaning more than one, and nomial refers to "terms". So a polynomial is an equation with many terms. But remember, you can only name it once it is simplified!! and only in equations with addition, subtraction and multiplication. Not sure if this helps, but hope so! :0)

LOL!!!! That's funny..... "a SIMPLE way". I just finished two math classes, I don't have a clue how I even made it through.... that is like a forign language. I hated it. I cried several times right in class. Math is mean!!!!
I hope someone can help you.

My heart goes out to you!

it is basically an equation
with variables and numbers

it involves factoring
you have methods of multiplying these and make them simple

but the rules are quite confusing

i suggest you study
