Apart from a few individual successes, Blacks as a race make no tangible contribution to the planet earth. The Slave mentality ensues. You know, not wealth creators, but workers. Affirmative action as a substitution for hard work. Violence as a substitute for Self Esteem. The lowest ratio of voters in any civilised country that allows the free vote. Then they complain.

durhotimitoyea, Come on, why don't you. being self critical is an artform, the outcome is being able to do something about it. SHOW ME ONE WORLD LEADER amongst black nations. Don't say S. Africa, too early to judge.

Please note, Individual successes like me do not represent a Race.. Now compare yourselves against the White Race, The Arabs, despite all their problems, The Asians, East and West. Like I say Complacency will be the death of our race.

macdyver60, You continue to demonstrate the complacency of which I speak. Deal with Issues, Refute what I say, attempting to be clever just amplifies the fact you have nothing of worth to say.

Before blacks were infringed upon by other nations (Arabs & European), they were living in harmony with nature and had their own kingdoms. When they were invaded and forced to live in someone else’s culture, things took a turn for the worst and have never been right since. These other nations raped the land and left the countries in turmoil. All of the violence that is occurring is a direct result of colonization. Robbing the earth of its resources was an unnatural thing to people who lived in harmony with nature. “Civilized” individuals tend to destroy life instead of preserving it.
To answer your question, there are many factors that are at play when looking at why it appears that blacks are complacent and do not contribute. So many that I would need an entire book to tell you about them all. Did you know that before blacks came to America, they were hard workers? Did you know that this so-called black mentality was picked up by living with poor, uneducated whites who represented the scum and the disdain of their own race? Blacks have been struggling with identify issues.
Many successful blacks are inventors, scientists, doctors, etc. and financially secure. You do not hear about them much. I am not making excuses for people who choose to complain instead of working hard because today, there is none. I just want you to know that you should really look into all of the contributing factors that are at play when examining why people are the way that they are.

How many white guys do you know that go to work at a factory every day and pay the bills and then - drink beer and watch TV?
It's not that blacks are complacent it's that people are .........you see one race or the other and make an observation assuming that either the other race is doing more or less and then you cpmpare ...........but it's an assumption white guys are no better percentage wise I am one and really I just want enough for me and my family and when I get that I quit and stop trying - and so do a lot of the people I know .
Is that good ? Does that speak well of me ? Yes and no . I am content with what I have and I am not after what you have. But at the same time I should be pushing myself to see what I am capable of I am wasting talent and potential -
It's all a matter of perspective.Stop thinking the grass is greener on the other side -

There are some known facts that Black people have contributed a lot just at the time they weren't allowed success. A White person would take credit. But I'm sure people still discussing slavery and racism from all sides is well and alive can and does keep Humans down. Our minds are easily more accepting to the negative and as the negativity takes over it brings a person to become bitter and scared. Almost like a trapped animal in a cage. I live in South Memphis and racism is still live and well from both sides. It's just a big mess over history. What happened to tomorrow is another day? I think I treaded off topic....

Its funny how in this day and time people continue to worry about one anothers race or what they are worth or what they do or do not do. Who cares! I am a black man who has never pointed the finger at any race for a blame on any issue. Instead, I work my but off and yes at times it is tough, but I will get through. As for the self esteem issue, whoever wrote this has had some traumatic situation with blacks to say something so stupid. Yes there are violent blacks, whites, asians, etc. All different races have issues! Wake up and worry about educating more people in a positive manor instead of this stuff!

I take it you are an American. You have been brain washed. Get out of the hell hole you live in. The world is full of black guys and women doing things.Doctors, Lawyers, Poets, Musicians, Scientists, Artists, Journalists.
What do you want them to do? What to you would constitute a tangible contribution? Cure cancer....no one's done it yet. Mend the hole in the ozone layer? settle on Mars?
Most of us including me and probably you won't leave much of a mark on the world. We will work for someone else, even if we're doing research, or writing, or being an astronaut. Is making money the be all and end all of your life?
Self esteem is made up of 2 parts, the inward part that you get from your growth and development and your upbringing, this gets internalised, and the esteem of others that reinforces it.
Many people have this disrupted at one point or another.
Self esteem shouldn't depend on making loads of money any more than on being attractive to the opposite sex. They are just two areas of endeavour.
We don't know much about what black people did in history, because colour is rarely mentioned. But you have been given a list of names from more modern times.
Here are some more
Derek Walcott
Bob Marley
E R Burrowes
Baroness Amos
George Washington Carver
Mary Seacole
Trevor Phillips
Shirley Bassey
Why are you labouring this point?

I feel that you are generalizing the whole issue and you are playing into the same master-slave mentality by being critical of your own people...that is I'm assuming that you're black by your avatar.
Instead of focusing on all that your people have accomplished despite the many obstacles that they had to overcome, you're being overly critical and unappreciative. Your question and statement lacks self-esteem and pride in your community, and I think this is the biggest obstacle to overcome, because it is a mindset left behind by the slave masters.
Change your mindset. Become proud. Look at your people's history. There is so much to be proud of. Forget what other people are teaching you about your culture and your heritage.
Even present day black American culture is revolutionary and rebellious and makes a strong statement. Stop measuring it by the "Master" mentality. Really look and listen...what is the message?
I would highly recommend that you read the novel "Roots" by Alex Haley.

Not true! What about Nelson Mandella, Martin Luther, King, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, Sarah Vaughan, Ella Fitzgerald, Earth Kitt, have you never seen a black doctor? No point in going on, the media choose to ignore them. Black artists had to start their own record label in the 1950's called Liberty because the major American companies would not give them a contract. The word 'Democracy' is nothing more than a sick joke in America and Britain.

Get away from your television set and read a book, In grade school I also thought that blacks were not represented in history until I did the research on my own to find out it just wasn't taught, Hmmm!
Spreading bigotry and hatred amongst those who are uneducated such as yourself is easy your lies don't play very well with the educated.
This nimrod actually tried to attack my education in a private email, It gives me great pleasure to post it for the enjoyment of all.

Subject: To prove you are educated
Message: You have just shown me you regurgitated what ever you learnt. Real academics, can read a question or statement, comprehend the meaning of such a question or statement and respond accordingly. What I find with Negroes like yourself is that you have convinced yourselves that you are educated, but frankly you know nothing. Now may I suggest you go back, read the question, comprehend it and don't allow complacency to rule your mind. I pose questions like this to show how arrogant many of the blacks I meet in the real world. Thing is it is for no apparent reason. I highly recommend you read the sayings of Calvin Coleridge, American President. To summarise, he said the world is full of educated derelicts, 'Determination and Perseverance alone is omnipotent' Maybe we need to take a leaf..... Feel free to respond and I will show you what real education is all about.
OMG ROFL Nuff said!

I could care less about your true identity, Grow a pair and stop hiding it. you can clearly see who I am.
Educated or not I have no aversion whatsoever to administering a beatdown when necesssary!

I disagree with you, Black people are just as good workers as the Whites. However, alot of Blacks are born into poor families, and many of them have no chance to have a new life. This is the same with poor countries. The resolution to stop this is complicated, because if you give money, it might be used for unnecessary items. The first step to make more Black people work, (Although I'm not saying they don't) and minorities in general, is to eliminate racism. From there, everyone will be together and more people will work, because they will be happier in general.

Your question shows a complete lack of knowledge which may not be you fault because schools only teach selective (negative) Black history. ie Slavery. Affirmative action was brought in because Black people weren't being allowed access to the opportunities whites had so it was necessary to redress the balance. Plenty of black people worked hard but were at best ignored simply because of their race. I suggest you find out about your history, start with kingdom of Kush. And about voting, remember this: apathy and withdrawing in disgust are not the same thing.
