You have just described the essence of meditation -- focused attention on Nothing. It's hard. When you find your thoughts drifting to something specific, try to re-focus your attention.
One good trick is to stare at a candle flame. It flickers enough that it's hard to zone out or unfocus, and chaotic enough that it doesn't hypnotize.
It's also important to be in a comfortable but not too comfortable position. There are some mats made for this.
Good luck!

To truley free your mind of thought is the basis for most meditation, but it seems you're right to think of true nothing would probably mean you arent thinking at all. I think.

impossible.
unless being a dead person. they really do think of nothing. and our brains are constantly working. even when u r tired and ''thinking of nothing'', your brains actually continue to think about your tiredness...something like that.

I'm sure it is for a split second... but you would never know it, or you would be thinking if you did.
