A good corset is an investment and costs accordingly! Believe me!
A commissioned version can run you $2000 but the fit! Amazing.
Do a quick search such as you've been advised here by the other readers.

Consider asking a costume maker to help - it's hard work to actually make, but there are costumiers who would probably consider taking an order seriously.
Cheaper versions are around and not a bad choice if you're careful and selective. (Check things like the lacing's, the grommets/eyes, seam stitching, binding on the edges before you hand over your hard earned moola!) I tend to avoid the ones trimmed with lace etc - tacky and they "age" fast.
Consider fabrics like Coutille - sp? (Sorry just gone blank and can't find it in my dictionary, it's a very strong cotton). Consider the lining too - select something absorbent like cotton rather than a synthetic! Honey you WILL sweat. And take no prisoners, the fit is vital - pass if the item doesn't do what you want it to do and send back! Search until you find the perfect one.
Corsets look great with pants - slim line or flared. They look incredible depending on your height (5'.7" plus) if you have a trumpet-skirt. Oh go for well made stuff eg lined etc. A corset with an Indian cheesecloth skirt doesn't cut it.
Shoes are VERY important. Flats are OUT. Select the highest heel you can 1. Move in. 2. Doesn't look like a tramp. What you are after is a shoe or boot that elongates the leg, firms the calf muscle and gives a sweeping visual line along the front and minimising the knee. Some heeled sandals can "work" but depends on your corset.
Styling: Corsets are passe at the moment. Doesn't mean you can't wear it - you have to set it off. Team it with a sexy see-thru' lacy or tulle blouse or a plunging neckline sort of thing.
Skip the fishnets, Tired expression. As are slit skirts when combined with a corset.
Your jewellery should accent the neckline/decolletage - choose incredible stuff like this for sheer theatre

work on the throat as in dog collars, collars - necklaces that rest on the bosom and shoulders. Pins and brooches you can position on the shoulder-straps or in the cleavage.
Hope this lot helps you!

If you want a REAL corset and not a sex toy, there are only two sources; Vollers and Axfords. These are NOT cheap. They are the real thing. These two companies have been manufacturing corsets for a LONG time, since they came into vogue in the early 1800's. I think it is Vollers that says they manufactured corsets for the queen, and they meant Elizabeth from way back when...
My ladyfriend wore an "underbust" model which stops at the point where your bra frame strap is located and extended down to cover just the top of her hips, a long frame model. You have to get the right size to fit your torso; too long, and it will ride up too high and undercut your bustline because of where it sits on your hips. Shorter is better for waist nipping. An overbust corset is the original "wonderbra" by the way, as it pushes up the bustline to extraordinary heights.
They are expensive, but they are worth every penny according to My ladyfriend who wore a corest every day, all day, except for when she was taking a bath...
A REAL corset has several features, a metal busk with sturdy hooks. A simple "hook and eye" closure as your bra has in back is merely a sex toy, not the real thing. The busk is one piece in front and is very sturdy. The laces in back are also sturdy, like boot laces and not a simple ribbon. The stays will be spiral metal stays, not plastic. Plastic is simply too flexible to work well at shaping the figure.
You need to buy a size rated at 4" less than your regular (uncorsetted), natural waist size for a correct waist fit. The height is up to you, with shorter being better if you do not have an accurate torso height to go with. Start with pulling in only an inch. It should NOT be uncomfortable, but be a pleasant not too tight but snug feeling. My ladyfriend only pulled in 2" since that is was what felt "right" for her, snug but not uncomfortable for all day wear. She said it felt like she was being hugged all over as long as the laces weren't too tight. Some women LIKE tight lacing and are trying to radically transforn their figure and obtain a "wasp waist" which is unnatural. However, tight lacing (more than 2"-3") can have serious consequences regarding your internal organs and how things fit within your body.
What do you wear a corset with? Easy, anything and everything, but under your clothing, not as outerwear. My ladyfriend said a corset on the outside was trashy, and was something like Madonna in her videos or something for a renaisance faire, but not something to wear out in public on a date. Wearing a corset on the outside was advertising "tart" in her words.
And as a last thing, you have to wear a real camisole (not the silky things, but cotton or linen) or a natural fabric bodystocking or something to be inbetween your corset and your skin. Most corsets, even professional ones from Vollers and Axfords are not built to be directly on your skin for long term. You need something to prevent chaffing and to absorb moisture and wick it away as the women from the 19th century did.
Bottom line: corsets require some care and dedication if they are to be anything other than a momentary sex toy, and did I say they are expensive? Be prepard for the cost of a REAL corset. A real corset will cost you a bundle of bucks, whether purchased mail order or custom made.A real corset will last MANY years of daily use with the proper care and laundering. My ladyfriend spent an average of $150 per, and had at least a dozen that I know of. Some, were absolute works of art with stunning colorful brocade fabric and covering them up was almost a crime, until later when we got to playtime and the outerwear came off and I could appreciate the beauty of what she was wearing...

Just do an on-line search. There are many lingerie shops. They tend to be expensive compared to other such items. Make sure the fit is reasonable. You don't want to get one too small and risk damaging internal organs. You can also ask for catalogs to be mailed to you. One place is http://www.loverslane.com
Another place is http://www.lingeriesite.com You get the idea. Do a search for something like (lingerie corsets) or (corsets) without the parentheses.

adorecorsets.com is a very good site. They can be very expenisive but, believe me, they are worth it.
An hour glass shape (like myself) should wear a pair of slacks for a sophisticated look or jeans for a casual glitzy look. NEVER wear a short skirt with a corset though.

you may have to get one online, not many stores sell those. Do a search on corsets and see what comes up.
