I turned 44 in June. I don't like everything about being this age. I have the usual health problems that come with being in my mid-forties and have to take a few daily medications. But overall, I think I like being middle-aged.

I now know who I am and what I care about. I don't feel like I have to prove anything or impress anyone. I look back at my 20s and 30s and think of all my opinions and passions and see that some of them were just empty pretension (how many books and movies did I try to convince myself that I liked?). If I don't like a movie now, I don't finish it. If I don't feel like being sociable, I don't. I'm now reasonably comfortable in my own skin. Becoming a dad is probably partly responsible for that.

For you folks of similar age, what do YOU like about being middle-aged?

Well, I turn 40 next year and I have to tell you, I don't mind it. Yes, my back hurts sometimes in the morning, and the 'plumbing' sometimes is a challenge and I HAVE to have coffee to get going in the morning. But I have to tell you, there is not enough money in the world you could give me to be a teen again. Middle age is cool, you are at a point where you are respected as a mature adult, but not yet old enough to have age discrimination hanging over your head. Your still young enough to be happy and active, but not old enough yet to be 'waning old fart'.
Best of all, you've still got twenty years to worry if Social Security is still going to be there for you.

A positive approach to building your health now will brighten your future years......I'm looking BACK on middle age and thankful that modern education teaches us to remedy our mistakes with
prevention methods that are promising. ...... I've tried all my life to have no regrets, but I find that to truly live, one is bound to make mistakes... I'm thankful for God's gift of free choice and for His proof of His LOVE for us. .... It has been easy for me to see that if one has not known love, one cannot give love...... (Marian Anderson, the singer, said she had not seen a smile and had not smiled herself until the time she first saw a flower - it was on a windowsill that her tenement window looked out upon.) In MIDDLE AGE we can look around at the evidence of God's smiles and love for each one of us.
