In Ireland as a child I learned to check every single berry for maggots and quite often found them too. Since coming to England I don't seem to find any maggots. Are they poisoned out or do they just not happen?

Yes, they are in there! Just soak the blackberries in salted water overnight. The blighters soon come crawling out! Rinse blackberries well with cold water the following morning..

Yes there are maggotts in blackberries, as i have found out. Wash them first anyway before you eat them, or you may get something you were'nt bargaining for.

Don't know about blackberries but you can get them in apples, especially fallers.
