Because we have to teach children that there are JERKS on this planet, they all cant be sweet like Elmo... I mean look at some of the answers on yahoo answers... see what I mean?

I'm sure it's just an ego defense. Think about it for a second. He grew up smelly and couldnt afford a real home, I'm sure the kids ridiculed him in school. After a while, I'm sure he just became bitter towards the world......"Nobody loves me and they are always judging me," So subconsciously I think he is rude to people to get back at the rest of the world for his traumatized childhood. He has learned to grow comfortable with his misery, it is afterall all he has ever known.

you see it all started out, when Oscar, and his ex-wife Bo-scar, lived in a three golden trash can condo, in DC. and one day THE MAN (trash man that is) took it all away from him, and his wife, his wife Bo-scar soon left him, and got a divorce. :(, he left DC and moved from trash can to trash can, for many years till he ended up at the trash can he now calls home. He really is not grouchy, mean, or a jerk, he is just fighting to keep the little trash can he has, and to make shore that THE MAN the trash man that is, or anyone else get near enough to take his little trash can away. He's not a jerk. He is an old softie underneath and a little rough around the edges, that's all. Besides, you can't have all good guys all the time. That would be boring. You can't teach good without knowing a little of the bad.

because of fact he's a conservative caught on PBS and surrounded by ability of liberals who save him in a garbage can. And this super yellow effeminate alien poultry continually bugs him approximately an "imaginary" buddy with a stupid call like Snuffalugapuss who's mostt possibly Barney's cousin. i could be grouchy too.
