He's retired now but he's my favourite:
Roberto Baggio, born February 18,1967,is a legendary Italian former soccer (footballer), among the best players in the world throughout the 1990s. In 1993 he won both the Ballon d'Or and the FIFA World Player of the Year award, and is still remembered as one of the most beloved and technically gifted players in the world.

Alessandro 'Pinturiggio' del Piero. He is the most creative and versatile midfielder in Italian football. His skills were crucial on the Germany-Italy match during Germany '06. He is a very dedicated player to both his team Juventus and the National Squad. No ego problems when it comes to Del Piero.

Lots of people have said Maldini...won't disagree, but Roberto Baggio was awesome. Great footballer with one of the best technical games I have seen. Very classy footballer. He has to be my number 1. Alessandro Del Piero is another of my faves. He really impressed me in 2002 WC and even this WC was such an asset to Italy with his experience. Whenever he came on the pitch I always thought, look out. He can break a game always being there at the right time in the right place. And of course we have now seen Fabio Cannavaro at his defensive best. He's one of the good guys.I wish him well at Real.

Andrea Pirlo, he is an excellent midfielder. And he has good moves out there on the pitch. A good example was in the match against Germany, if you watch it, you can see when he gets possession of the ball, the attention of about five German players is on Pirlo, they all thought he was going to strike it, but he passed it to Grosso, just one of his spectacular moves, he is a clever player.
I also like Buffon, although I do not think he is the best goalkeeper in the world, he is still good. I have watched his goalkeeping style and seen that he tips the ball most of the time while other goalkeepers actually catch it. He disappointed me because he couldn't save penalties. What happened to him? I've seen him save penalties with Juventus well, but in this World Cup, he went the complete wrong way on all of them like he was afraid of the ball. But it's okay, I still adore him!

Paolo Maldini, Fabio Canavarro and Alessandro Nesta. Three of the best defenders in the world.
Also Rino Gattuso because he is tenacious and gives 100% for the full 90 mins, he never gives up.

Alessandro Del Piero. I have followed his career with Juventus ever since he joined the Club. He has gone from strength to strength and now is the Captain of Juventus.
Players like him come once in a blue moon. Look at his loyalty to the club. Even though Juve have been relegated to Serie B, he still is sticking with the team.

Paolo Maldini. the defender every manager loves. he give in everything for every match, be it a Small unknown team or big popular team. his loyalty is also something that's unmatched in the footballing world and his media-shy personality is also what i like as too much exposure is no good and players should just concentrate like maldini on their football.

paulo maldini with out a doubt the best italin player ever, ask anyone who really knows football and they will tell u the same, defenders dont often get the same hype or recognition as strikers or midfielders, dont know if he is still playing now as he must be 39 or so,but my favourite of the new crop is Rino Guttoso as i think his drive, determination, tackling in midfield is world class.

Ribo Gattuso. Total team man and utterly committed to the cause whether he plays for his Country or AC Milan. Also under rated as only a defensive midfielder but he can hit some great passes to turn defence into attack when he wants to.
