illiopsoas is the major hip flexor, but rectus fermoris (a quad muscle) helps
sartorius does a combo of hip flexion, abduction and external rotation
pectineus does a combo of hip flexion, and adduction
tensor fasia latae does a combo of hip flexion and abduction

so 3 muscles (illiopsoas is a combo of 2 muscles) can do hip flexion
while 3 different muscles can do hip flexion with other movements

rectus fermoris also does knee extension, which is why you can't flex your hip as much when your knee is straight
