"Panzer" as in tank the armoured vehicle

"Tank" (same spelling, slightly different pronounciation: the a sounds like the one in "car") as in the tank, which is filled with gas or whatever.
"Behälter" is not completely wrong for the second case, but uncommon. If you talk about the "Behälter" in your car, people might not get you're talking about the gas-tank.

My website on my computer is yahoo,and it has a translater, so when I read your question I did some research. I typed in tank and it told me the German spelling for it is... behalter -- which is German for tank
