Define god first. Which god? Whose god?

There is the problem. You want people to believe in something and the simple fact is that you cannot even show what god you mean. Which one is the right one? Yours? How about someone else's?

I cannot prove what I believe so I call it a belief. What I believe gives me some small hope and comfort, but in the end that is all. I have things I know and can prove and those things take me further in life than blind faith.

Does that make me less of a person because I don't follow what ever god you demand that someone follow? No. I am just different than you - the difference in this case being that I do not see a need to demand anything of anyone that I would not want forced from me.

The belief in God is a logical extension of the complex order I see around me. As too which belief, that came from observation of those who I had exposure to. I made some assumptions then worked from their.
1. The Bible is God's word
2. Whats in the bible is overall accurate and can be trusted so long as it is not directly contradicted by another teaching elsewhere.
3. That if I'm on the right track, God will teach me more.
So far this has been mostly succesful, many teachings I have discarded others I have not.

Perhaps. There are things other people who call themselves believers that are just too superstitious, narrow-minded, and simplistic for anyone with intelligence (and a knowledge of psychology) to take;

But I believe in "god," or the divine, as a universal human archetype that we intuitively guess is the summary of all the goodness and beauty we can conceive. A consciousness merely reflected by our own that would guide us to a higher existence, or a better life. Thus, the depth of the concept of god varies among people, how well they think and articulate their faith. If they are simple-minded and superstitious, they might believe in the magical or mystical aspects of religion, that changes can happen in the world outside the forces of nature and human intervention. That the bible is a direct dictation of god's word and could thus be taken literally, rather than shaped by mere men, inspired by their faith and their particular contexts. Some people just pray and read religious texts, segregating religion and secular life, hoping to die and be reborn into a mythical heaven. Some try to realize the kingdom of god, the love of god, by eradicating social injustice, making concrete actions for the benefit of the world. Some might even be so ethnocentric and aggressive regarding their religion that they already violate its basic precepts.

Such human conceptions might not even be thought of as "god," per se. For example, for some people, the concept of ultimate goodness is severely limited and warped so that it is reflected into a unfulfilling desire for wealth, success, power, prestige, stardom, or "progress." Thus, in a way, there are such things as idols in society.

Typically people with below average intelligence tend to believe in God, but there are many good reasons why it's stupid as follows.

No religion is the correct one, and all religions have got it wrong.

There are many major religions in the world, such as Christianity, Islam, Hinduism, Buddhism, Sikhism, Judaism, and so on. Within each major religion there can also be many minor religions. For example, within Christianity there is Catholic, Protestant, Anglican and so on. Within Islam there is Shiite, Sunni etc.

In summary there are many hundreds of different religions in the world all with their devoted believers and followers. Talk to any devout religious person and they will almost emphatically insist that their religion is the right one, it’s fact, and any non-believer is doomed.

Commonsense and logic would suggest that if there was any truthful or factual basis to religion, then only one of these religions could be correct, not all of them. However, in my view, it’s highly unlikely that any of these man-made religions bear any resemblance to fact or the truth, and are more likely to be the result of simplistic human intelligence looking for an escape from reality.

All religious preachers just pump their one theory (God exists) down our throats.

When the science community makes a discovery or modifies a theory they publish a paper for all to view, speculate on, and debate. Invariably such discoveries open up our simplistic minds and expand our horizons. Examples would be the works of Einstein and Hawking, to name a very small sample.

So why do preachers have to continually pump their one theory (God exists) down our throats. Why do they stand on street corners and hand out leaflets, yell at passers by, gather huge crowds and push unsuspecting victims over in the belief they will be cured of whatever mental or physical ailment invades them, if they just believe in the theory of God.

Why can’t the believers of religious theory just behave in a decent manner, in much the same way as the scientific community does. The answer to all of these questions is simple. They know their theory of God is wrong, and saturation mental and verbal bombardment is the only way they can convince people, and they do it directly or indirectly for money.

God is just another fake creation by man.

Humanity has created many Gods, for example – Gods of Olympus, Ancient Egypt, Babylon and so on. Most of us are atheists about most Gods humanity has created, except the latest craze, the current God in the Bible. Learned atheists have also rejected this version of a God, but some hard-core believers still hang on, presumably until a better image of God is created by man.

Well I'm not American but I hope you don't mind me answering. I don't think this question is significant, especially on the political level. If people believe in god, well good for them, and if people don't it's good for them too. It shouldn't matter whether other people believe what they do. What's important is that you believe in it, and if you do don't force it on other people. I personally do not believe in god, but that's my personal belief and I won't try to convince someone who does believe in it bcoz who am I to do that? Perhaps I'm wrong...then again perhaps I'm right. But it should only affect me and noone else. What I can't stand however, is when religion and politics are combined....that is a true recipe for disaster, especially when not everyone in the country is of that religion...that is just plain unfair, and not something expected of a country that boasts its freedom for its people. If you want to follow your religion's rules go ahead, nobody should ever stop you...but you have no right to force those beliefs on people who don't believe what you do.

Absolutely, I've things in my life that I could not explain except for the existence of God. I would have a terribly hopeless feeling during the bad times in my life if I thought there was no guidance from Him.

But, to those that don't believe, I would never be so arrogant as to say that I was far to smart not to believe or whatever. While we don't agree, I still believe you can be intelligent individuals.

Yes, I do believe in a higher power. I have been a nurse for 25 years, and some of the stuff I have seen.... just confirms that.
