we may have been created equally, but that doesn't mean that we all use our talents to the best of our abilities. If we're lazy or do stupid things that curtail or harm our potential (drugs, alcohol), than we're setting ourselves up for other people to appear to be better than we are. Some of us may have been born with silver spoons in our mouths, others in more squalid conditions, even some with physical or mental handicaps that challenge their futures. However, except in extreme cases, we are all born with innate talents that we can develop. We may not all compete on Wall Street or be a famous painter/sculptor/writer/whatever, but the potential exists. It's up to us to overcome the obstacles other people as well as ourselves--and God--puts in front of us.

The Declaration of Independence does state "all men are created equal"; but, this equality refers to a "political" equality that the writers of the Declaration of Independence believed all men possessed. The document also states "these truths to be self evident. What truths? Self evident to who?

The Declaration of Independence does not address biological, physical, financial, or any other difference men or women may have possessed then or now.

Insecurity is an inward feeling we all have. When that inward feeling manifests itself in an outward expression of superiority, people "act" like they are better than others. These people are not worthy of your thoughts. Dismiss them.

Know thyself.

Well, these "some people" may turn out to be many of us. There is a tendency for people to assume that their values, lifestyle, culture, and even personality are superior to everyone else's. After all, denying the importance of these facticities we are born with would almost be tantamount to denying many of the things that define who we are.

And of course, the concept of all people being "created" equal is not always imbibed in the unconscious. If a stranger asks you if he could stay in your house for the weekend, your first reaction would tend to be aversive. even if you believe and state your belief in basic equality. The essence of this stranger, at least in your mind, would be different in quality from a family member.

I guess these tendencies are just exaggerated with more insecure, arrogant, and ethnocentric/egocentric people.

They forget they are equal and feel inferior. They act like they are better in an attempt to make up for feeling less than equal.

because they think they are better then anyone else. Its the way they were brought up. I known a person that her mother told her that she is better then anyone else, and that she won't ever think she has to look up to anyone. Its all the way of being brought up. We are created equal at birth ,and then it changes after.(it makes me mad when peaple put others down) it shouldn't happen.

I don' t know about people, but dummies like me are all
different. For example, I am much better than a sock monkey
but a half-mature grapefruit is much better than me, so you see
Jimmy, there are those with and those without in this world.
You will just have to decide who is better each time you meet
someone for the rest of your life.
