Girls that are on the pill... do you ever wonder this..

If we miss a pill its bad right? And there's a possibility of pregnancy... now what about the 7 days where you take no pills at all or the fake sugar pills? Becuase not everyone's period lasts the whole 7 days we're not on pills... mine only last 5 so what about those other 2 days? Is it safe to have sex on those days or should we all be using backup such as a condom?

*If anyone could find actual information on the internet that would be great! Comments are fine but please, no guess's.

Once you're established on the pill - IF you ovulate - you will do so on the 14th day (the second week of pills). It is therefore perfectly fine to "miss" those pills at the end of your cycle while you're menstruating. Your body is made to think it's ovulating - those pills contain synthetic estrogen (the hormone that makes you ovulate) - that's why you GET a period. Now if you miss a few pills during your cycle you are more likely to allow your body to take over long enough to ovulate on its own - so THAT is when you run the risk of pregnancy. NOT during the 7 days you're "off" the pills.

If you're truly concerned about possibly becoming pregnant, talk to your doc about the shot, about taking the new pill where you take it continuously for 3 months (have only 4 periods a year), or oh hey! DON'T HAVE SEX.

Yeah, it's bad to miss a pill. Just take the missed pill the next day, along with that day's pill--just take them several hours apart (don't take them at the same time) and you'll be fine. I'm not exactly how/why that works, but as long as you take all the pills, you're protected. If you miss more than 2 pills (and don't double up the next day), you're not. You also need to use an alternative birth control method for the first month, as it takes that long for the pills to take effect. After that, you're protected, even during your period.

So to answer to your question, you're fine to have sex on your period (it doesn't matter how long or short your period is) once you're passed that first 30 days and assuming you haven't missed any pills.

I didn't go look anything up. But plain and simple, you should always use a condom whether you're on the pill or not!!!
