johnskerry posted this site www.whoserved.com, which shows which politicians (at the national level) have served in the military, including which presidents. At quick glance, it's between half and three-quarters, which is what I would have guessed just from watching campaigns and elections.....

Most of the US Senators and Congress Representative have served albeit in the National Guard or some other "Safe" role. John Kerry and a few others did serve in WAR or in the military. Bush headed to the Texas National Air Guard, so he was really safe, especially since that was during his booze and drug times and he skipped most of his duty.

Well, our president was part of the National Guard, but didn't actually serve all that much. There are a lot of politicians in Washington, it's difficult to keep track.

A lot of them... um we have a lot of senior heads... of state and of the Federal Government. It would take a lot of research. The country is still run by civillians though. It was our first President who told his captains not to overrun the Government during our revolution.
The National Guard lame? Did you know that the NG is responsible for your freedom right now? Did you know that there have more National Guard units deployed for war than any regular Army unit? Did you know that the National Guard also has the role of saving your butt when there's a natural disaster? In the National Guard I have been deployed 4 times. I have also been to a few disasters for weeks and months. Did you know that a buddy of mine in the National Guard died while we were deployed for OIF 1 for 13 months in Iraq? Don't call the National Guard lame buddy unless you have the balls to join us and I don't think you do.

Well, President George W. Bush was in the Texas Air National Guard. As for Congress, a solid minority of the members have some experience in the military.

As a British Citizen, I really have no idea if any have, and it doesn't concern me. I don't think military experience really is a factor in running a country, especially as today's politicians wouldn't have been in many major engagements.

Why would you want to know that? Are you suggesting that serving in the armed forces is a requirement?
