From the vantage point of being a veteran who is a conservative, I would have to say that the probable answer to your question is that veterans and current servicemen have put their lives on the line for their country. This probably makes them less likely to want to make "willy nilly" changes to the country without valid reasons/evidence for change. This attitude is the very essence of conservatism.

People who haven't made this same sacrifice are probably more likely to accept the minute changes without much concern....since they never sacrificed of themselves for the country. They only are looking out for themselves and what their "rights" are...with no real concern or big picture thinking involved. It is really a less evolved intellectual structure if you ask me.

To the person who thinks conservatives shoot first, that's not true, the terrorists cause all this. The war would have been over long ago if the terrorists did not keep prolonging it.
The liberals probably don't have friends and family in the military either and most conservatives do.
Conservatives are willing to actually Do something, liberals are only willing to whine and complain.
Have any of these liberals even talked to a service man about how much they have fired their guns as opposed to how much time they put in just doing police work and training the Iraqui troops???? They do not fire without knowing who and what they are shooting.

Most conservatives are just pro American and have a sense of duty to protect her. Not to mention that conservative leaders are great to the military. We don't blindly follow Bush or any president we choose to stick by the oaths that were taken at the beginning of enlistment.
