They are conscious for less than a minute after being chopped off. Some French guy did tests were they blew air through a guillotined head and it could sort of speak for about 15 seconds or so. I'd guess without blood supply, consciousness goes after about 20 seconds. Look up the guillotine thing on the web. I can't find this exact reference though.

Stephen King addressed this in one of his short stories.
I believe he said it takes about 30 seconds to die completely and it takes that long only if the person (the head) still has something important to say.

LOL Nerves. Nerves severed may create movement for a few seconds.....that is not life.

8 seconds, they did a study on this and realized that the brain still stays active 8 seconds after it is decapitated then all function ceases.

No one really knows, I think the brain can still responde for a few seconds. Like that one king who was beheaded and was blinking his eyes afterwards

It doesn't live. It may be animated for ten seconds and upwards of three minutes, but that animation is the result of nerves firing, that is all.
