when i turn left in my car it makes a weird grinding noise but only when i turn left. what could it be? is it fixable without seeing a mechanic?

you have a bad CV joint this is common with older vehicles,,it will need to be replaced as soon as possible,,or it will go out on you,,and it might do some damage to the under neath of your car when it does,,it can also cause you to have an accident,,hope this helps,,i own a repair business,,and see this all the time.

Check to see if your tire is rubbing the inner fender cover. If it is take a razor blade use a pair of pliers and heat the razor up until it glows red then cut the hard plastic cover that is rubbing off.

sounds like the inner back pad is worn out .
