I am 22, years old and have been with my husband for 4 years now. We have a 20 Month old little girl, and been TTC since November 05'. No luck as of yet. I got an ovulation kit this month, and wasnt to ovulate for another 6 days but the test is showing a positive. My periods are irregular, could I be ovulating, and this be the reason why I havent got pregnant cause ovulation was off, from when I thought I was to ovulate?

Do these ovulation kits actually work? If you took them did you get pregnant within the month you first tried with it?

Everyone's cycle is different. There is a myth that woman ovulate 14 days after their period begins...but that is only an AVERAGE and each month can be different. The other thing is that sperm can live inside you for up to 5 days.... so if you are having a shortened cycle one month and you have sex right after your period and you ovulate earlier than day 14 than yes, there is a chance of getting pregnant. They only way to know is to know exactly when you ovulate. There are several ways to know and some are more effective than others. Some can only predict before ovulation happens and some can only predict that is has already happened. The absolute best info I can give you is to go read a book called Taking Charge of your fertility by Toni Weschler. It will help you understand your body and all the myths about it. It will help you time when you are ovulating and the best times to conceive – or not! . It's about knowing your body and knowing when you are fertile or not. You can pick and choose what you do with your info. Good luck and don't listen the all the myths! Even if you don't get into charting and everything....it will help you in so many ways!

I would highly recommend charting in conjunction with the OPKs. I used them (and Clomid) to get pg with my son. If I had not been using them it is likely we would have incorrectly timed intercourse and not gotten pregnant.

I use www.fertilityfriend.com for charting - be sure you use a Basal Tempature Thermometer and take your temp at the same time each morning upon waking. Since I work two days a week, I have to take my temp at 6:30 am every day - even the days I could sleep in. Stinks, but if that is what it takes, then I will do it.

I get my test strips from www.saveontests.com - great deal - much cheaper than your local pharmacy and in my experience quite accurate.

The OPKs will tell you when you are about to ovulate and the charting will confirm ovulation after a couple of days. Sometimes (particularly when you are irregular), your body will have an LH surge and try to ovulate, but not quite make it. The temping will let you know if that is happening.

Best wishes and baby dust to you!

I used the Clear Blue Fertility Monitor and I got pregnant as soon as I saw I was ovulating

Worked like a charm

Dont use the ovulation kits because unlike the Fertility Monitor
you have to guess when you might be ovulating

The fertility monitor test you most of the month and will help you to see when your ovulating
Well worth the money

they should work pretty well because they are testing for the hormone levels. If your periods are irregular you are not going to ovulate during day 12-14...you are exactly correct satating that the reason for you not getting prego may be because of ovulating at a different time than you *thought* you were...good luck!!!

I haven't had any luck with the OPK's, but I may try the clear blue easy ovulation monitor. I heard they're worth the money. I just don't know how long you can use them. Good luck and baby dust to you!

I got pregnant the 2nd time I tried using an OPK. They tend to be pretty accurate - just remember that once you have a positive you should stop testing - further results will only confuse you.
