Was Dale Jr's grandfather a race car driver also? I can remember the day Dale Earnhardt Sr. died and the crash didn't look that bad to me. The car didn't flip over but was Dale Sr's father a race car driver too?

As you've already found out from the previous answers, Ralph was the first Earnhardt to race.
As for Dale, Sr.'s crash, it did not look that bad, but it was a direct head on crash into the wall. Since then, Nascar has put safer barriers (soft walls) up at every track. Also, Nascar made it mandatory for every driver to wear a hans device to restrain the head and neck in the event of a serious crash.

yes Ralph Earnhardt he was the first one to race then Dale Sr and then Dale Jr. the crash did not look bad but it was a hard crash TV just could not show the intensity of the crash you would have had to been there to see just how hard he really hit the wall

Yes, Ralph Earnhard was a huge race car driver. He did more in the small ciruit than the Grand Nationals but he was a famous driver.
Yes, eeryone says that accident didn't look that bad..However, one must remember that the safety things we see in accidents similiar to that one today.. are b/c of that fateful day. It was a dead impact. The thing with rolling is yeah, it looks ugly and tears up the metal more..but you do have the roll bar and you're strapped in there. So you're kind of like those little cat toy balls with teh little jingley bell in it.. You're in there and you're getting tossed around, but you're secure from the outside. THe thing with Big E's crash is it was dead impact.

Yes, his grandfather, Ralph, was a race car driver, too! No, actually the accident didn't look as bad as some of the ones we have seen, but it was a hard hit and that was one of the many problems with that accident!
