Because Hizbullah bombed the US Embassy and the Marine Barracks in Lebanon in 1983. If you are a civilian political organization that targets and kills Americans, you are defined as terrorist by the US Congress.
This has nothing to do with their dealing with israel, though that could have been used as justification if they hadn't attacked Americans. And the listing of terrorists is in US Law as passed by Congress, not at the Attorney Generals' discretion.

you cant say that Hezbollah defines themselves as a terrorist organization because they have denied EVERY allogation of terrorist activity against them and even condemned the 9/11 attacks on the twin towers. They have made statements condemning the attacking of innocents including "tourists, or intellectuals, doctors, or professors who have nothing to do with this war." They only started launching rockets into civilian areas of israel after the extensive bombing of Beirut over the last few weeks. Prior to that, all rocket attacks were against military installations. The war nasserallah is talking about here is of course the war that started with Israel invading lebanon in 1982. The same year hezbollah was created to drive the occupying force out. Some would argue that they succeeded long ago, but Israel still technically occupies a part of southern Lebanon, giving Hezbollah the excuse they need to continue their struggle that they started over two decades ago.
It's a lot of fun to imagine lots of terrorist activities that Hezbollah could be doing, and come up with fictional numbers of rockets launched from lebanon into israel, and say that they just want to kill babies and be evil, but the fact is thats it's not so black and white as that. The U.S. has several allogations against hezbollah, all of which are highly disputed and there are a number of influential countries that do NOT concider them a terrorist organization, including the EU. They ARE concidered a group of geurrillas fighting Israel. I'm not saying they are right for doing so, but just because someone is wrong, or against you doesn't mean they are terrorists. You could argue that america was born out of terrorism if that's the way you define it.

Hezbollah was formed to resist the American/French/Israeli occupation of Lebanon in the eighties...yet another example of the Israeli government busting in, guns blazing, to an Arab country and claiming the land as their own. Even after the "pull-out", Israel has continued to meddle in the region, with spies and covert operations, and also continues to arrest suspected members of Hezbollah and hold them in jail INDEFINITELY and WITHOUT CHARGES. Hezbollah isn't some cold-hearted terrorist group--it's a group that threw out a fascist occupation and built schools and libraries and hospitals for the people of southern Lebananon who'd been subjected to unfair Israeli rule for decades. Hezbollah has continually asked the Israeli government to free and/or charge the Lebanese people it is holding in prison--and Israel refuses. So Hezbollah kidnapped two Israeli soldiers, and tried to use them as bargaining chips after every other avenue had been explored. Even then, Israel refused to listen, touting the western line that Hezbollah was a "terrorist" group, and we never negotiate with "terrorists". (But you have to wonder--if we don't negotiate, how are the so-called terrorists ever going to feel like they're being heard? How will they air their grievances? Maybe they've been so disillusioned by Western countries who don't listen that BOMBING and SUICIDE TERRORISM is THE ONLY WAY anyone will give them the time of day.)
This conflict didn't start when Hezbollah fired some rockets at Haifa, it started when Israel insisted that it had the right to control Lebanon and Lebanese politics.
In other words, Hezbollah is considered a terrorist organization because they refuse to take no for an answer.

Hezbollah are a very clandestine group. They go into a village, launch rockets into Israel and leave the area.
Israel has pinpointed where the rockets came from and attack the area, but the Hezbollah have already sneaked away leaving the civilians unprotected.
The Hezbollah are as terrorist group who have vowed to destroy Israel any way they can but they are too cowardly to stand up and fight in the open, they will only fight from behind the shield of their own civilian people.

What's with all you terrorist apologists that think Hezbollah is the victim here???
Hezbollah is nothing but a bunch of Islamic terrorists who's professed goal is to kill every "infidel" on this planet, specifically Israelis and Americans. How can any rational thinking human being support this??? Maybe THAT'S why they're called terrorists!!!

They define themselves that way. They claim to be a fundamentalist group, committed to using violence to achieve a political and religious agenda, and to hurting as many civilians as they can in the process. That's pretty much the definition of terrorist.
As to why the US added them to the list of identified terrorist organizations, I believe it is at the discretion of the Attorney General, and in the case of Hezbollah was done about two decades or so ago. Canada and many NATO countries have also designated Hezbollah as a terrorist organization over the past several decades.

This is an excellent illustration of how the US should remember that we do not live in Israel. Israel is overseas. The people living there are also Middle Eastern. They are not of Caucasion ancestry.
Hezbollah has nothing to do with the US and never will.
I think the only reason people would think otherwise could be due to extreme religious beliefs that actually exist; Such as: People flying into the sky
and angels blowing on things
and brass horns sounding out of nowhere.
Do you actually believe that this makes sense!?
I have only illustrated my assumption there about exterme beliefs only. That didn't refer to average level headed church goers.

Because they do not wear uniforms nor do they adhere to the Geneva Convention for waging war. They are not the military arm of a sovereign nation recognized by the U.N. (like Syria, Australia, U.S., Russia, etc...). If you think back, the Minute Men in 1776 would be classified as terrorists today.

because they are fighting to keep Israel at bay, In the middle east Isreael is like America- they dominate. Seeing how the U.S. and Israel are allies an enemy of Israel becomes our enemy, very stupid I know. Hezbollah are nothing more then freedom fighters, like we were back in the 1700's fighting for our freedom, I guess you can say the British considered us terrorists too.
